Android Should I root the Xiaomi MI3?

Just got my hands on this device, but been an Android noob, I have done an update to V18.
V18 seems to be more stable and good till now, this will be my primary phone after the preliminary test cycle, so treading carefully! I have tested the basic functions of sound/ display/ notifications/ call; all seem to be working fine, no issues till now.

Curious enough to know whether should I root the device? Not a big fan of ROMs, as the source is not yet released!

I would like to know what are the advantages and disadvantages that I would benefit or lose out if I root the phone?

Though I got it through a priority pass being a flipkart first member...people here have reported higher success with buying on their app and then choosing COD...maybe you can try that next time
Ok will do. But I would like to use my card so hoping the app works fine this time around.

Anyone root the phone yet? Is it just the normal toggle in the security settings or is a more elaborate procedure required? Btw, what recovery does the mi3 use ...cwm?

Xiaomi has 2 ROMS - Stable (No root) and Dev (Root). Phones obviously comes with stable.
But you can root stable as well:
1) Install CWM as guided here: http://en.miui.com/thread-21241-1-1.html (basically download the file, put it in root, and flash via "Updater" app).
2) Download Chainfire's SU from http://download.chainfire.eu/451/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.01.zip , save to root of the device (or alternatively older 1.93: http://htcfanboys.com/download/rawdealer/?action=list&folder=8267 --this is what I used)
3) Boot into recovery (you can select from the menu of the "Updater" app).
4) Flash the SU Zip file (under emulated/0)
5) ??
6) Profit !
Any app requiring root will go through the SU app (so you'll need to grant permissions manually). Do note this will NOT show root permissions in the permission manager, so use Chainfire's SuperSU to manage individual permissions if needed.

Additional:
7) Get WSM tools from http://en.miui.com/thread-8784-1-1.html
8) Install and run. It will ask for installation of Xposed binaries. Grant SU permission (wait for the pop up) and let it install.
9) Reboot.
10) Load WSM again and search for "Mi-tools". Install. All in one verified package for Mi phones. Tweak to your hearts content !
11) ??
12) Double profit ! B)

I will be trying it for the first time since Mi3 warranty isn't affected with rooting. What are the benefit of rooting and installing the custom ROMs? Is there any benefits like better UI? How do you get things like the Pie control? I once saw it on a Nexus 5 rooted phone.
