Xiaomi has sent invitations for an event on Tuesday, August 26, where the company will officially launch the Redmi 1S smartphone in India.
The dual-SIM (Micro-SIM) Xiaomi Redmi 1S with dual standby was first announced for China in May, and features a 4.7-inch 720x1280 pixel IPS-LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection and a pixel density of roughly 312ppi. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with MIUI skinned on top.

Xiaomi's Redmi 1S is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC, coupled with Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. It has 8GB of built-in storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). The Redmi 1S also features an 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera with flash, alongside a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Redmi 1S comes with 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Direct and hotspot functionality, Micro-USB, Bluetooth 4.0, FM radio, GPS/ A-GPS, and USB OTG connectivity options. It is powered by a 2400mAh battery, weighs 158 grams, and has dimensions of 137x69x9.9mm.

There are likely to be surprises at the event as far as the pricing is concerned, since at the time of the Mi 3 launch in India, Xiaomi had announced that the Redmi 1S will be available at Rs. 6,999.

Considering the phone's price tag, it is likely there will be an enthusiastic response to Redmi 1S, and it will be interesting to see if the smartphone will be plagued the kind of stock shortages that have become synonymous with the Xiaomi Mi 3 in India.

Given the prices of devices from Xiaomi, Mi 3 got it's competitor as Moto G and now with Redmi 1S, Moto E is in battleground.

No point buying a device which doesn't offer full HD display... I am talking about the peeps on TE...

IMO it gives tough competition to Moto E. And in fact is a better phone on paper. Real world comparison will be needed for better comparison. I dont care for full HD displays if the rest of the specs are VFM.

Planning to buy this to replace my Samsung s duos, if only the screen was a bit smaller! Anyways loved the Mi3, that's why buying this too!

After the success of its Mi 3, Xiaomi is all set to bring yet another uber-affordable smartphone with awesome specs in India. The company is all geared to officially unveil the Redmi 1s priced at Rs 6,999.

Specs:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.6GHz
1GB RAM
720p IPS display 312 ppi
8GB onboard memory. Expandable up to 32GB.

We did have a word with Xiaomi about the launch of the Redmi 1S and got a confirmation that the smartphone will not launch on 26 August. Xiaomi also mentioned that they are in process of shipping a huge stock of handsets to India and the launch would be somewhere in the first or second week of September. Xiaomi seems to be buying some time in order to have a huge inventory after the results of the Mi 3 handsets in India.
