turns out the latest dlink-2520u has also suffered the same fate, known as the Z2 variant

No more broadcom. If you want broadcom in a modem look elsewhere or get an integrated wireless (switch it off) to have a modem with a broadcom chipset.

So what is the big deal with a broadcom in the modem anyway ?

more stable if you live 2.5km or further from the exchange. If you live closer a trendchip will sync faster though faster is meaningless when quotas are applied. How does a realtek compare, i suppose i will find out. Tweaked the SNR on the original 2502u and it seems stable so the realtek variant will sit in the box until the incumbent dies.

Just playing about the cli its totally different.

I got the Dlink 2520U ADSL modem, and I conked off after a year, please suggest a decent robust modem. I was under the impression this will last me sometime, in retrospect the Beetel 220bx from Airtel lasted longer that this piece of junk.

The connection is on 24x7, modem -> TP link 941ND-> Asus n66u access point->Asus N13BU.

Please suggest a suitable option.

Mine is still working 2+ years on. I got another as a backup andonly then realised the chipset had changed.

Are you sure the modem has gone ? check the power supply.

I've only ever had modems damaged due to lightning strikes.

For some reason, I wasnt able to test this out as all other appliances had different pin types.

What was the issue? Power supply or the modem itself?
I have a Beetel 450 ADSL modem/router at home which has had two power supply issues in the past. Both times, all I did was buy a new power plug and replaced the old one. And after over 7 years, the Beetel still works...

It was the modem itself, think they replaced the IC within the modem, this is a year after buying a brand new product!
