Hello,

My Dlink modem died. I doubt it is worth trying to fix it. Any one tried fixing with local guys? Also, can someone please recommend a modem that will work both with BSNL and ACT?

Thank You
Sun

The TP-Link W8968 is quite popular for that kind of usage (ADSL+WAN). It seems the version 4 (v4) of this modem+router is also out now replacing the v3, which I have.

AFAIK w8968 works with adsl and fiber. Wait for v4 and then buy i guess. Ask seller about version else it will be printed on the under side of the modem.

When I bought mine from FK, I confirmed with their CC as to which version they were selling. Back then I didn't know that V3 was a crippled version with one dummy antenna so I specifically asked if the model available on their site was V3 (thinking it was better than the V2). The dude om the other end confirmed the same.

Would suggest you do the same. Call them up and clarify.

Even I have the v4 of 8968 and it is fine been using it around 2 weeks. You can get it. Price is also cheap.
But I confirmed from cc that the version v4 has fixed the antenna and this version has both antennas functional. But v4 has non removable antennas, so how to test whether both the antennas are working?

Non removable lol. So basically they didn't want you to know whether there are dummy antennas so they made it non removable

There is no fixing here lol.

> so how to test whether both the antennas are working?

Check my old post. Basically, remove one and compare the range. When I remove left one there is no drop in range and with right one, range is completely off.

If you want to check whether the antenna are working, you need to build directional reflectors to separate the two antenna waves. I am sure there is an instructable for this.

Apart from that, nothing comes to mind ATM.

I ordered a w8968 a couple weeks ago from Amazon. The seller was 'SUPER DEALS 24X7' and the one I received was v4.
It's been working fine for me so far.
(It's been working fine for my parents as well since I bought it for them last year)

Can you check one thing please. Download a couple of torrents on pc and check if WiFi freezes over a period of time without limiting download/upload speeds

Another way to check would be to see what is the max speeds you get over WiFI from LAN to your laptop/check connection. If more than 15-20 MBps, then mostly it is a 300 Mbps device, thus has both antennas working. This requires your laptop/device to have 300 Mbps card.

Another decent option was D Link 2750U
Back in the day, they had supplied it with a revamped motherboard and it wasnt performing as expected.

Check if they have fixed the issues with a revision/f.w upgrade?
