PC Peripherals How do I get a external interface or extension that allows me to switch/swap connections from the mobo

I have a decent mobo with good audio and also a tube amp. How do I get my mobo connections to my desktop, so that I can switch/swap headphones easily from my top of my table? Is there a device that would allow me to select running my tube amp + DAC and/or the mobo audio (switch kind of).

can you rephrase your question
do you want to connect yuor mobo to the amp and also mobo to headphone and then switch between the two ?
Can you share you mobo model ?

TLDR he has one pair of headphones and 2 output sources and he wants to switch between both source without having to manually plug/unplug the cables

what you can do is maybe buy a 1-2 audio splitter kinda thingy and plug your HP's on the single-1 side then discretely plug your outputs on the other 2 sides

Not sure if I am missing something but Switch via the OS ?
windows will let you select your output device if you click on the speaker icon or OS X will let you do the same with option+click

Select DAC for external speakers or built-in to activate the headphones..

Exactly what I was thinking, I have my mobo connected to multiple outs, one optical, one hdmi, one Bluetooth
I switch between the audio out choices by clicking in speaker and choosing which out I want, (windows 10)

I think they're saying that their cabinet sits below desk level, and it's inconvenient to unplug/plug the headphones repeatedly. They want to be able to plug the headphones into the PC output or the amp output with ease.

I think the splitter mentioned would do the job, but I'm not sure if it would affect sound quality because most of these are cheap chinese ones.

Yes, this is it. I guess, I am bit too old to keep the nice and shiny box on top. So since the desktop is below and the outputs are behind the motherboard - it is a challenge to swap headsets. Secondly - on the desk I have a DAC + AMP as well that I use once in a while (this does not have a recording interface, so only for listening to music)

Add to this I have a few headsets some wired, some wireless, some with mics and some without em.

I was hoping there was a solution to move all cabling to the desk level to some kind of device that would allow me to choose to between dac + amp or mobo or just plain work as a high quality cable extender and I swap at the OS level

swapping headsets at an output level is not something I would do or recommend.
Considering you already have a DAC to drive your headphones, may not even be worthwhile to use the mono audio out for your HPs.

Having said that, if you must do it, passive speaker and /or headset selector boxes should be available on the market
There would have been plenty of Aliex but that is not an option any more unfortunately.
It's a simple enough device for you to be able to build your own using a DPDT switch and a few 3.5mm female sockets and a box
