Its a big question that comes to my mind when I look at my mother and mother-in-law.
They both are housewives and dont have any obsession with TV. I wont recommend youtube/whatsapp/facebook to them.

Here, my concern is their mental health. How to keep them busy?
We all need to be busy to be happy.
Any suggestions?

Only one : Don't give them advices show that you care.
Just my 2 useless cents :p
PS: my mom lost a ton of unhealthy weight after watching hot to loose weight youtube videos.

It's a good thing no. Not to be obsessed with TV. How is that a bad thing?

Anyways to keep them busy. Tailoring, embroidery, books/music, keeping the house tidy are some of it. As long as they are busy and get occupied.

Board games
Specifically carcasonne. It was recommended to me as something that older people will enjoy. That was last july. Since then me and parents play this almost daily without fail. Its not complete chance based game, nor something that requires too much thought like checkers/chess. There are lot more games you can explore.
Find youtube channels for them that they may like ? Its a goldmine.
More ideas: Get them a puzzle book, sudoku book. Paper form. Actually I am gonna get one puzzle/riddle book too :D . Thanks for the thread man!

Yeah, board games a good option but that requires more than 1 person to be played with. She likes to play ludo. But she cant spent her whole day in playing ludo on phone and on board when somebody is available.
Probably some kind of work from home will work for my mother-in-law.
She was a teacher(hindi medium) earlier but now that school is far away as we moved and no hindi medium school nearby.

More suggestions required :angelic:

I am glad you're keeping them away from social media. My grandmother is obsessed with these vloggers and believes everything on WhatsApp and compares her kids to the people in the vlogs. She's depressed right now and has a lot of health problems because of it. Keep them away from it. Books are always a great way to keep them occupied. :)) [If they can read English books, lemme know! I have some good suggestions! :)]

Home gardening, there are many ways even in small areas.
Taking care of children, which many old parents dislike to do these days. Some of them progressed beyond youngsters and are corrupted by social media /s. Some articles were there saying the very idea of menopause in humans are specifically for this purpose.
If professionals in trades requiring specialisation, can help with needy social groups.
Always wondered about keeping track of information passed on from generations. Local traditions, cultural trivia, old food recipes, traditional medicinal tips for eg. regarding child birth and after care both for mothers and babies - a very important area, nature, agriculture tips, etc. which are not mainstream. If somebody can keep track of that, will be great info for future references...

My mother used to play ludo (not on phone) with my relatives but she also played alone imagining the other person is (Choor AKA Thief), Sometimes she would loose to choor and then tell us that she lost but didn't cheat and we told her you can cheat and win :tearsofjoy:
