Are there any good wifi smart plugs which can be flashed with some opensource firmware?

Budget isn't really a constraint but need something that's accurate and doesn't pose fire hazard.

If it can't be flashed with any custom firmware then it should have the ability to work without internet.

I have only seen this topic in passing but isn't this all about getting a ESP8266-based Tuya product and then running Tuya Convert on a Linux machine with Wifi to load Tasmota or is there more to it?

Edit: Read further down than Tuya keeps patching the hack and the latest firmwares cannot be exploited, with manufacturers moving away from the ESP8266.

It must be able to measure RMS current otherwise it will not be accurate.

Cheaper plugs typically can't measure RMS.

You want to see that term in the specs of whatever smart plug you use.
