Hi,
On the lookout for old or broken laptops in working condition to repurpose into NAS / Headless Server / Dashboard Display.
Taking this drastic step as my increased intention to complete basic server projects and lack of SBCs due to "the global chip shortage" are happening at the same time.
If you have something that checks most of these boxes, do DM me. We can work something out.

Must have :
  • NO SENTIMENTAL VALUE - don't want to overpay for someone's emotional attachments
  • LOW PRICE, ~4K INR is the upper limit
  • At least a Sandy bridge chip or later (post-2011)
  • A working power button and power input jack
  • A motherboard without physical damage. Needs to boot into OS consistently.
  • At least 1 display out (HDMI preferred)
  • At least 1 working SATA Port (HDD or DVD Drive should work)
  • At least 1 working USB3 Port
  • Working Gigabit ethernet port
  • Non-damaged heatsink and fan
  • Expandable RAM slots (not to be confused with empty)
Nice to have
  • Original charger
  • Populated RAM modules
  • A working screen - can have a dislocated or broken hinge, and a few dead pixels.
    • If your screen is smashed, can still use it in a "headless mode"
  • Pcie Wifi adapter intact
 
I got one. Only the battery is dead else it works quite well. I've changed the RAM and SSD config over the years to the following:

- AMD A6-6310 1.80 GHz Quad-Core Processor with Radeon R4 Graphics
- 8GB DDR3L RAM
- 120GB SSD (used as a linux machine for mom for a few years)
- 1366x768 screen (no dead pixels, but one square part of the screen is slightly brighter than the rest somehow, but it's all visible and usable)
- Touchpad layer has peeled off a bit but it works perfectly fine.
- Wifi is older one, 802.11n as you'd expect. It's weird, so I've attached a cheap 802.11n USB wifi with it.
- Battery dead due to years of degradation as you'd expect. You can either use it wired or replace the battery.
- Has optical disk drive. I also have a converter for ODD to 2.5mm hard drive so you can use it for extra storage. That's what I did. I can ship it along as I have no use for it. That's the extra SATA port you wanted.

- Ethernet is not gigabit, only the old 100Mbps one.

I can send one to you for 3.5k + shipping. I was about to sell it to someone else for the same price but they declined at the last moment.
