For example, recently user @Pakaak confirms a sale and DM’s me asking for my payment details, I obliged and sent my personal payment details but then he ghosts me.
He pops up after 4 days asking me to make a video of the PS2 media remote showing that it’s working, again I obliged, I took trouble recording the video, pressing each button in front of another camera (because it’s IR light can be seen working through another camera) and uploaded it as per request. Then again he ghosts and doesn’t care to respond to my messages.

I’m awaiting payment for a week now.

No other person has patience like this, it’s just rude to say “send payment details”, ghosts and reappears after 4 days asking for videos and then poof gone!

He’s not the only person, have dealt with another 3-4 people like this past few months.

So having a list of irritating time wasters like them would be much appreciated and let people know who to watch out for.

Yes! People should not ask for additional details after asking for payment details. I would not entertain demands for videos and the like as I simply dont have the time for it. However it's understandable if the seller is new to the platform or without much feedback.
I believe its used as a way for people to buy time and keep the transaction on hold for themselves. As a rule of thumb you should always say - first to pay gets the item and no holding for any buyers.

Will do that from now on, thanks!

I literally have an end to end video of the whole GPU that I am trying to sell with TS run on my sale thread, and people will still ask me for more videos and more pics. And if refuse, they throw expletives. This after I have explained to them multiple times, that I am a bit tried of giving the whole janmkudli of the card (most of the details are available of the internet).
The site is filled with many time wasters, low ballers, manipulators (bordering on scammers ), new and old alike.

Note: I am not badmouthing TE, maybe it's just the way majority of Indian tech community is.

No, we should stop such whatsapp level name and shame business. There is already a thread on this and that is enough. Once I messaged a seller with multiple threads and asked if he has a particular keyboard and he replied "check my post". So, I bought from somewhere else and moved on. Many times I forget about the messages I send or receive because there are too many. This thread is going to be useless waste of time. We should use our energy in some productive discussions, not to express our frustrations. The forum is meant to have tech discussions not to host 'frustrated members releasing their anger' threads.

Agree with powervgx. There's a thread for scammers, but it's too much effort to go through, so I never do. This thread will be the same. Except, with a lot more fighting because tagged users will then come and argue their case saying it was the seller who wasted their time.

Just follow some simple practices.
  • As a seller, if someone's not responding, no matter what reason they cite, don't hold the product for them. Hold it only if you know the buyer or they're a reputed member and you feel like it. Otherwise you're under no obligation to hold.
  • If someone says they'll buy next week/month/over the weekend, just consider them a lost cause and move on.
  • If someone asks for additional information, provide if you think the request is genuine, otherwise don't. Asking for additional information doesn't mean a guaranteed sale, otherwise there would be no point in asking for this information.

Just saying, for my case I did not do anything to waste his time, he clearly doesn’t care to reply. I can post screenshots if allowed.

As for people saying it’s going to be time consuming to argue your case, it’s not! It’s the sellers time and energy that’s wasted not the buyers. I’m sure there are some immature members who join from toxic forums like r/IndianGaming (Reddit) and then fool around for their own ‘little’ entertainment.

The seller can just post the persons ID and a few screenshots of the conversation, while important payment information can be blackened out. That’s it! Then how can the other party argue?

Edit: How can a buyer say send payment info and then ghost? It’s literally a confirmation. There’s nothing to argue about.

That happens when the person you're potentially selling to is just a middleman / scalper or whatever and selling whatever you've got to a 3rd party.

The end buyer backs out and you're left with wasted time.

Copy / Paste with edits from my sale thread regarding another person who took ages to reply and I had to keep asking for payment…

Sale initiation started on Monday with a typical “send payment info” message on my thread, I sent my details, more than 12 hours later the person says “will contact you shortly by phone, got stuck with something, but will take this for sure.”
2 days went by, got fed up and DM’ed the person last night that if no payment is done by 3pm I will sell it to the next person. The person finally initiated a WhatsApp chat before the deadline 3pm, I answered his questions and gave him my full address (as requested) to check for delivery amount etc, we chatted about the delivery and then I guess he figured it would be too expensive to send it across the city via Dunzo etc. Meanwhile I’m still asking the person to send the payment for confirmation. Then the person says will send someone to pick it up tomorrow and conveniently forgets to pay me and disappears again. I pinged him twice again but no reply.

Overall I requested payment 4 times and waited till 10-11pm tonight. This entire process is really annoying!! Have to keep requesting on and on? If you want to buy something then be ready to pay! Don’t keep the seller waiting and making him request over and over!

From now on I refuse to keep anything on hold! Be prepared to pay upon mentioning ”sold” or “send payment details.”

Quite fed up overall, dealt with 3-4 people like this in a month!

Anyway, I moved on with my sale and sold the item to another person from this forum, his payment was smooth and hassle free!

Thanks for reading my rant! I really hope this time wasters list is approved!

Tend to agree with most here, this possibly falls under spam than scam though.

This is not confined to just TE,people are just that way i guess,I remember few days back there was a segment on tv asking why the mugs are chained in train toilets, coz people steal even a measly banged up mug, used this example just to put things into perspective, can’t change people.

@raf1988 you are not wrong, and the other persons are wrong. So it may seem strange that I'm asking you to change, but this thing helps me quite often.

From the very old book "How to stop worrying and start living", my excerpt below should not violate copyright laws under fair use exemptions -

“For example, I often have a luncheon date with a friend who is rarely on time. In the old days, he used to keep me stewing around for half my lunch hour before he showed up. Finally, I told him about my stop-loss orders on my worries. I said, ‘Bill, my stop-loss order on waiting for you is exactly ten minutes. If you arrive more than ten minutes late, our luncheon engagement will be sold down the river—and I’ll be gone.’ “

You could decide firmly about a deadline, declare that deadline openly, and stick to it.

This person contacted me today, he apologised for the delay and then said “it’s uncalled for, for 3.5k, really?”

He’s requested me to remove the message I posted on my thread (I didn’t even tag him). He has blamed the delay on his job, he told me to read our conversation and he is now asking me for an apology!! In the end he has threatened me to remove my messages or else he will take it up with the mods for action.
Now what do you say to this? I have posted the entire ordeal in the above post, this not regarding Pakaak, this is another buyer. I can mention his name if approved.

Been chasing this guy for payment for days and then in the end “he wants me to apologise” and to remove my posts regarding this. Or else “he will take action!”

Mods @puns please look into this! (Please tag other mods to look into this, when free. Thanks!)

Edit: Work / Job delays or whatever, if you want to buy something then be ready to pay! Don’t faff around, forcing an apology and then to end with a threat to the seller!

Edit 2: Latest reply… *Sigh*

As I had predicted

Before going ahead and making an entire thread based on my late reply...

Please bear in mind there are many other factors... That could lead to a late response

I have dm'd you as to why I'm late to reply...

It's really sad to see community like this... At least wait till weekend...
Please report this to the Mods. This should result in infractions or warnings.
For a "late" reply of ONE WEEK?

good luck

Thanks for the reply and clearing that up.

I sold it to another person who was waiting in line for it.
Dude, You should have done this the second time the guy ghosted you or did not reply to your DMs after giving him a fair warning the first time. Buyers should understand that the seller is not obliged to hold a product for you if you can't make a commitment of payment on time. And as a seller you should move on to the next buyer on line if anything like this happens instead of jeopardizing your mental peace and having sleepless nights over it.

My rule of thumb is, when someone asks for payment details, I'd hold it for them for 24 hours unless the specifically ask me to provide them more time for payment. Otherwise, the person next in line gets the payment details.
