Should there be a limitation on the number of active threads a member can have? Or if that is too much to ask, a limitation on "bumps" on all your threads at the same time so that the whole front page becomes your personal marketplace?

Nothing personal against any members who might be doing this, but I would prefer if there are more discussions on the front page rather than endless bumped-up posts which are not going to sell anyway for the unreasonable second-hand price expectations.

This is as per updated thread/comments/new threads created all at once!
There's no such restrictions/nor ever will be as one can simply bump his thread every now and then but might look stupid!

It will sound like some google search promotion war to get your advert in top 10 listing!

This would be so helpful. I see threads that are months old and the OP is just bumping them every now and then - take the hint OP, if your item didn't sell for xx a month ago, it won't sell for that now.

Perhaps bumps should be allowed only with a price drop. Otherwise this is just a forced/free ad instead of priced to sell listing.

And what does masking the bill amount accomplish? Personal info I can understand, but bill amount...

I have sometimes sold items months later at the asking price. People probably check TE once in a while and also don't bother searching for buried posts, so sometimes it is matter of coincidence.

Also, hiding prices should be a choice. Sometimes, you would buy items at a one-off discount or the invoice reflects prices excluding the use of points, vouchers or includes disproportionate discounts for multi-item purchases, which indicates an unrealistic invoice price.

There are about 1 in 20 buyers who ever respect the asking price. Buyers expect all the transparency in the world while barely upholding any standards themselves, so hiding prices is fair enough as long as the buyer thinks the asking price is fair enough. As a buyer you should be more concerned about the product condition, warranty, age rather than look for the lowest price you can bargain on.

I think the voting is asking the wrong question. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I posted the first post above. Bumps are fine, all of us have to do that. Some items are trending and they get sold in minutes or hours, but some are rare and older/ancient and only a few enthusiasts are interested in even at a fair price as they already have something similar. Hobbyists like us are strange like that. What I dislike about bumps, personally that is, is some people have lots of sale threads and they tend to bump them all up around the same time and fill up the "what's new" page. I think that's just bad manners, no offence to anyone. If you have lots of sale threads, you should condense them all together into a single thread and then go nuts with your bumps.

Alternatively, I would also prefer a new tab like "What's New Minus Classified". I mean some days, I have no interest in buying and selling, and I'd prefer to check up all the new activity without having to scroll through bumped up stale sale threads. Again, I am not sure how many people would share that opinion, YMMV. Just putting it out there.

you can ignore a section of forum. Go to section page and top right, there is an ignore button next to watch button.
Then your new posts wont have ignored section posts

There's a person in WTB section with currently 20+ active threads and bumped regularly. This makes it their personal classifieds section. I mean that literally takes up the whole page and half of the next page.
Really unfair to others IMO and shouldn't be allowed.

To be clear, I'm not asking for a bump limit. There should be max active FS/WTB threads limit.

most users with an active FS thread, will have <=5 active FS threads concurrently, I’m generalizing ofcourse, I could be wrong. how often does it happen to warrant a hard limit? I’m not too active now so I’m genuinely curious.

Rather than creating a hard limit for bumps or FS threads just report these user/s

I humbly don't agree with it. I saw someone selling a USB hub for a reasonable price, and no one is interested in buying, but let's assume in a few days I'm in a need of a hub, I would prefer to buy that used one for lesser price compared to the full price of new.

I can certainly see that happening, but it is more of an exception than a rule - applicable only for some niche collector items, not for readily available products like electronics that depreciate on a weekly/monthly basis and warranty left is also reducing. I was referring to people who are so out of touch with reality that they think their old used stuff is almost worth the same as brand new ones.

You're hiding it because you grabbed it in a lightning deal with the sole intention of wanting to flip it for a profit. Buyers are wise, so they bargain to get a piece of the pie.

A separate section that doesn't show up in What's New, for non-negotiable, fixed price listing would make you happy I guess - bump all you want :D

Basically what I'm trying to say is, repeated bumps in the hopes of you selling it for the max possible price is annoying for others. You would not be doing this is each bump cost you a bit of money. And like you everyone would want their thread on top, and everyone keeps bumping all the time.

I don't think bump limit should be implemented but a hard limit of 5 active threads in classified is a good step, If implemented people will add multiple items in a single thread making it more attractive to lot more people. I always prefer adding multiple items because that gives me more exposure. Imagine you are selling a GPU which have (lets say 50 people interest) along with some wifi device which have 2~3 people interest. When a member post in the thread inquiring about GPU the wifi device also that much exposure making it a hot deal.

There could be a limit placed on the number of sale and WTB threads. A maximum of 2-3 for either section is appropriate. If you want to post more sale threads, then do it as a Reseller in the Reseller section. Also the duration between bumps could be increased from 24 to 48 hours.

I can certainly relate to the concern of OP. I also hate it when this happens which is daily. I have to go through many of these daily bumped topics to get to reach something new. Some people have too many WTB or FS topics and then they bump these topic everyday and it pushes other listings way way down.

We should limit the active WTB/FS topics to 5.
We should limit bump frequency to once in 72 hours (3 days).
And if we can impose a limit on maximum bumps per listing then it would be great too.

AGREE .... No Changes reqd in *BUMP* limits
I have been a TE member since 2011 and the forum has been fair to buyers / sellers and also identified the rogue or scrupulous ones.
All in all the Staff of TechEnclave and Mods had done an excellent job of preserving TE as India's Premium IT Forum.

Bumping once in week/15+ days is called regular? A person can jump over to the next page to see other listings so i don't know how it is UNFAIR.
I do agree that 1 post should have been made for all my needs. I have already apologized to a mod here for multiple threads.

I don't think there is any need for a limit on Bumping/Active posts.

Some new rules would help the members here like consolidation of your requirements/offers in a single post. Also, a limit on shipping time frame should be applied as one seller here took payment from me, made me wait alot for shipping the item without mentioning it in the sale post itself and gave me a refund after making excuses and eventually sold that item to another member here. The same guy also removed his frustration on me indirectly in the form of messages (referring to one of his past deals with me) and his deliberate acts. I think it is quite right to ask for a shipping date rather than waiting forever for a reply from the seller.

Thanks.
