Hello hello. I joined a decade and a half ago. I think this forum is one of the best tech forums (possibly only, sans Reddit if that qualifies) in the country, evidenced by the fact that it’s still here while many others have come and gone.

The forum is public. I’ve been wondering if we could have a private sub-section only for the older members. Just for discussion of-course if there is a need to have a discussion which might be a tad sensitive or privileged which is best kept private.

What do you (older members) think?

If it already exists, please add me :D

Just make general talk private. Everything on it is visible to everyone outside and contains lots of political views expressed by everyone here. I think I said this exact same thing years back.

The problem with not allowing certain discussions in GT is not about external viewers but internal ones

Interesting idea but how do you make it work when the mods are unwilling

Because they did not take care of the older members. I made this point to some Erodov refugee who was having a go at me for pulling rank some time back

Is discussion valued in this place any more in the era of SM where people's concentration is gone if post is more than 200 chars.

How long ago did that byline grey matters here disappear from the front page? Where it is now more about seeking help about YOUR PROBLEM than content generation.

This place is no longer about content generation. What i think killed it is people moving to mobile platforms and away from PC's to interact. The content in their posts is a fraction of what they could say using a PC

About the only time i find people making novel length posts is when they want to complain about something. About THEIR PROBLEM, not for the benefit of the community. Sale gone bad. Bad service whatever. Truly amazed at the amount of verbiage I see in those threads. No char limit on posts in those threads.
