Just adding a bit of my experience with some of the members here. Most of the members are honest, genuine and kind hearted. But some were not so nice. I am not going to tag anybody here and this post is not meant to settle scores or anything. I'll just mention the bad experiences that I have had so that others maybe don't repeat it.
1. Care to notify a buyer waiting for the stuff before selling it off to someone else
Title is self-explanatory. One fine day, I asked some seller here for the pics of the accessories and requested him explicitly to not sell it off to somebody else. The seller just randomly replied that the thing is gone. That's it. No reply after that.

Some don't. Ever.
3. Buyers approaching with what you'd consider a bit 'too' low than the quoted price are not always "lowballers". Sometimes, they might have reasons or might just be in two minds wrt condition of the item; so kindly be respectful without jumping to conclusions. Only those who pester you with greed are truly eligible for that tag.
Around six months back I had contacted someone here for his OnePlus phone on sell. The thing had suffered a fall nasty enough to leave a crack on one corner of the screen. According to what he wrote, the crack allegedly didn't permeate through the actual layers of the screen's surface. There crack was not on the screen protector. He had clearly mentioned that it can be fixed by a good technician and anybody can guess that the repair was going to be fairly expensive since this is an OnePlus phone.
During that point of time, the green line issue on OnePlus phones was spreading like wildfire and my search took me to posts where the owners if this specific model (and many other OnePlus models) mentioned the arrival of the dread green line without their phones suffering any physical damage e.g falls.
So I checked the exchange price of this thing on Flipkart and offered a price over 1K higher than that which happened to be much lower than what he had quoted on the sell thread. I was in the realms of uncertainty when I sent him my offer. Considering the fact that it had suffered a nasty fall, I feared the coming of the dreaded green-line to be more likely. And a genuine replacement for that would exceed 5K if I am not wrong. So I wrote him "Considering the condition of the item and the likelihood of that issue coming up, would you consider this price that is higher than Flipkart?". To this he replied,
"Items are sold according to their present condition and not future, so I am not falling for your lowballing trick. And the quoted price of this is much much higher than yours on these X, Y, Z portals." I went ahead and checked those X, Y, Z portals and to my surprise, they all were quoting lower prices than what I had offered, for the advertised condition of this phone. So the seller had just pulled these non-existent offers from thin air to call me a lowballer. After he said this, obviously I was not going to buy his thing under any circumstances but I felt like I needed to tell him that he was being insulting without actually checking anything.
When I replied to him with the screenshots of the quoted prices on X, Y, Z portals, he replied "I already had a higher offer form a local buyer before you DMed, so you're just wasting your time. We're not going to deal ever again."
Ofc, I'm never going to deal with him and I am not sure why he assumed that I was still trying to deal with him after his initial insult. But fine. Let me just remind all the sellers here that:
Not everybody here has endless flow of cash as the OP of this thread mentions. Some are students without a job so the not-so-significant amount of a few thousand rupees do matter to them. Sometimes, the buyer might be in two minds. When I struck him with an offer, I quoted a price that I could bear as a loss in case the screen actually went haywire. My reasoning for that were totally valid for my context since I was entering a deal with probable loss in mind. My goal wasn't lowballing and in hindsight, I shouldn't have approached him in the very first place. This is because, I never have/never will buy any device which has suffered a fall like that.
So please, do not insult anybody like that unless they pester you. And definitely don't before you go through what they write.

I am disappointed to hear about your experience, but sadly, I wouldn't expect things to change in general. I am sure there are many good and well-behaved people here, but in my view, people were generally far more civilized/well behaved during the Tech-arena/Techenclave days. Maybe it is just me, but it appears to me that maybe the generational change that has made a lot of younger folks more confident than in the past, has also got them used to not taking time to reflect much. It could be due to declining attention spans, but social media has also got them used to behaving poorly on online fora, to say the least.
I wish to know if there's any way to report behavior by a te member to an admin. Had a very bad experience with a fellow member. Not sure why people behave so rudely but such is life I guess.
Edit : is there a way to ignore / block anyone on te? I'd rather not waste my time and energy dealing with someone unreasonable or rude. A Block is a quick way to preserve one's mental peace and health

people blocking numbers for no reason. lucky that i got blocked before any payment exchange.
Had posted a cpu for sale. Someone contacted me. I showed the cpu on a video. I clearly posted speedpost in my thread but he wanted a local courier so I tried dunzo and swiggy genie ( both didn't work). Can't do more than this honestly.
Was waiting for the payment and this guy starts ranting why I haven't shipped yet. I told him I'd rather cancel the trade as I have a bad feeling. He threatens me saying have you looked at my ratings. I wish him a good day, no abuse, and block him to move on in life. Then the messages start on sms. How immature do you have to be to do such things. He told me he'll post on te which is fine by me. Attaching the wa and sms conv for the mods to tell me where i went wrong. Only thing I can think of is I never asked him when are you paying. I don't like to pester. If you pay I will ship. If you don't I won't bother you assuming you changed your mind ( it reduces the chance of an awkward conv and saves both parties time)
I feel I was saved by God by canceling this trade. If someone behaves like this Pre sale then only God knows how he would behave if the cpu is damaged in transit. And I don't understand how he's doing me a favor by giving a Delhi address. For me speedpost is speedpost. City makes no difference if I have to pack and send by mail. I feel he sold to some one in Delhi and since I didn't ship before the payment he's stuck in some other deal ( just a hunch, can't think of any other reason for this strange behavior)

There is no need for me to keep a conversation active with you on wa if the deal is called off, there's no monetary exchange or anything else pending at either end. Not sure what you want my friend but I am not going to sell the cpu to you because my gut says so. Te is based on trust and mutual respect friend. Hope you have a good day dost.
I have posted a complete ss of our conversation. I may be wrong. You might be wrong. We might both be wrong. Thing is atleast neither got scammed. Your money is safe. Still hope you get a good cpu. Why? do remember i have given 1st deal to many newbies. upfront payment!! but many ol member even have gone missing... after taking payment...
suddenly their dogs get sick. or any family emergency. usually that happens only after payment.
anyway i am done dealing with this guy. i stand by what i write. also he has not given any payment details BTW.
bhai deal nahi karna tera chej hai even if you have higher offer. but just blocking without any reason is not ethical as a forum mmeber OLX thodai hai. here we help each other. Deal/Classified is just a small part of the forum

And did you ask for payment details if you were confused? These days people just ask "hey, is your upi number the same?" . Why do you want me to sell it to you so desperately? How is inconveniencing me by asking me to try different apps better than a simple speedpost to your own address? How is a Delhi address more convenient for me? Why do you assume someone will pack without receiving payment? You could have just sent 500 and asked me to share images of the packed cpu so you know there's no excuse to not ship. You could have paid the rest once I shared the images. You could have discussed. The tone of the message was argumentative and bossy. Your ratings on te don't give you a right to be so demanding.
As stated, it's best to call of a deal if there's confusion. Why be argumentative about it post that? Did I say you wasted a week of my time? Did I abuse you on wa? Did I say anything rude? I just called off a trade which either side has a right to before payment is made

I did not expect to see the market section version of "tu janta hai mai kaun hu/mera baap kaun hai" here.

Again, I never said anything on the price. Look at the msgs again. Even today I said if you can pickup from my house it would be awesome as packing ki mehnat bach jayegi. Then you started off with how much rating you have ( should I ship without payment being made because of your high ratings buddy?) and telling me Delhi address was for my convenience (hoooow?). Then you say I wasted your time ( again how? Did you pay me? Did you do any extra work which went waste?). Multiple such messages one after the other is why I cancelled the trade. Kindly read the wa convo again

From a purely neutral perspective, the seller should not pack the item before receiving the payment. No business does this and honestly nobody should either. I've never asked any seller to pack the item before payment.
That being said, I would say the buyer here was kinda eligible for that sort of privilege going purely by the sheer number of feedback(s) he has. I have never dealt with him but I am sure he is genuine. However, in this case, he should've asked the seller his payment details first. He could've then asked the seller, "Hey, I will not back out. I just want this reassurance that the packaging would be appropriate."
Pretty sure @akg7091 wouldn't mind one bit had things gone this way. If I were the seller, I'd also expect the buyer to bring up the payment method thing from their end.
As to how things ended on WhatsApp, I reckon the seller could've simply said that he doesn't wish to proceed with the deal. And I'm sure @Zino wouldn't have nagged the seller. Blocking is apt only when somebody pesters you.
Whatever happened in the SMS is a spillover from the WhatsApp block. To be honest, nobody likes getting blocked. So it got worse from there onwards.
Let's not vilify anybody. Neither party is a scammer and that's the most important part.

That's a very balanced pov @rootyme. I agree that the blocking might have made the sms convo worse, but if someone sends you multiple messages one after the other in a rude manner then I feel it's appropriate to wish a good day, Block and move on. Abusive / pestering behavior should never be allowed in a civil society. Zino then goes on to say i am unethical, posts in my FS thread. All signs of arrogance and entitlement. I am happy I cancelled the deal

reason i take my ratings in account is because i can say this with experience that i came across all sort of people. and if people have known me.. i never backed out of a deal.
my rule is simple pack things and show me image and tell me when you gonna ship. once packed people usually ship the next day. that is my experience.
in most cases people didn't go missing but gave all sort of funny excuses. and i am always in strict time line. i value time a lot.
today ! its i who reminded him. about the deal.. and not him. also He asking me for payment without payment deatils. what was he waiting for... to slowly die down the deal. lol!
and i am pretty sure what went sour on this with my experience. but its okay. its just people just have to have the guts to says so. bhai tere ko nahi dena muje ache price mil rahe hai. simple as that
anyway.
seriously! i have given many newbie their 1st deal with upfront payment.
rating d doesnt show entitlement but experience of dealing with all types of people.
