Market Feedback Auctions in marketplace ?

Should there be an option for auctioning on marketplace?

  • Total voters
    114
  • Poll closed .
Need more clarifications on what products will be announced for Auction. This should be only on selective products which has high demand or a rare product in the market. Need more clarity on how a particular Auction should be cascaded if its through some Discord server or through Polls etc

it’s inevitable that old culture will not remain forever. Still remember selling stuff FCFS even though the one later quoted slightly higher price.

@BIKeINSTEIN your post triggered another thought.
  • close WTB if it’s not serving any useful purpose.
  • Create a new what can I sell for forum, instead of a thread, under marketplace section. Every member creates a new thread for their item.
  • Other Members can discuss price and sale interest in the thread itself. No moderation needed. No complains of price policing since you yourself asked for a price publicly.
  • That also discourages everyone from going that route instead of user to user listing.
  • We still have to post two pictures to discourage fraud.

Dear fascist TE mod/s sir.
Please don't close WTB. Some people replied to my WTBs even if it wasn't exact requirement. :tongueclosed:
I wanted to say how can we get more attention to WTB from FSers.

OK I have to be careful about what I say lest people pick up the most insignificant line out of the five and continue on. Ignore that about closing WTB please and lets get back to the topic at hand. And lets keep the innuendos in check or be direct about it.

I honestly do not, so I take my words back as well. There used to be a lot of bickering by some members who then went on to Erodov. Perhaps you are referring to something that was said then.

I would favor a system with the current FS section in place, the WTB section in place, and an active "How much should I sell this for?" thread in place.

The issues I see in this system are:
1. The price suggestion thread will be used as a means to bypass FS requirements and sell products. This is inevitable.
2. Price suggestion thread becomes a deal suggestion or alternative suggestion thread. More stringent moderation in this thread would probably reduce this issue.

"How much should I sell this for?" thread with 2 mandatory pics with hand written usename?

I have a problem with threads that go on and on for years. Its like a whatsapp conversation. Thats why not in favor of a single thread.
And whatever we do, we should not increase the moderation workload, hence the suggestion on keeping pictures even for HMSISTF post (aka junkyard sales). If the pictures are missing then other members themselves report it.

So, will we have a conclusion here?

I propose we start with the following and decide where we go with it in a few months. Can keep tweaking along the way.

A new Junkyard Sales section in the Marketplace for users who want a more flexible platform to trade items without strict pricing requirements with the following rules:
  1. Price not required: The price field will be disabled.
  2. Price discussions allowed: Members can openly discuss and negotiate prices within the thread.
  3. Seller freedom: Sellers have the freedom to choose whom they want to sell to, at the highest possible price or based on any other criteria they deem fit.
All other existing Marketplace and Forum Rules will still apply.

so is it decided yet mods? I have few items to sell which are useless for me but would love to auction it, I'm waiting for mods to create that new section soon. :cigar:

I had similar thoughts : A new section under existing new thread section in BUY/SELL named JUNKYARD, When one chooses "Junkyard" option - he only has a description box & price box which is optional to fill, no pics compulsory too, (kind of lite option) this way seller will have minimum effort to take put junk out here, when he gets enough interest from buyer he can take the dm route or comment section to provide pics, additional info etc anything that may be required to finalize sale.

If TE is going to implement an auction system then these options must be included:

1. Start Price (I don't want people to say "dedso rupiya dega" for my 3070 :banghead:)
2. Buy it now Price
3. Increment per bid
(Else people will increase offers by low amounts like Rs.10-20)

I joined a bit late in the discussion, but Auction is like communism: excellent if properly implemented, but unfortunately, it never is and would just create more mess.
