I think India should just take it.
Because India alone is not capable of doing projects in time.
Beside slow budgets and RnD and slow decisions is also huge cry for us .

But anyways what do you guys thinks?

Or do you guys think India should partner with Russia?

I think India should partner with Japan+UK+Italy instead.

Russia too takes us for a ride and beside Russia may get pressured from China and pass same technology to them.

""With an estimated cost exceeding $40 billion by 2035, the project’s financial demands have prompted the three nations to explore expanding their partnership."
India desperately needs powerful fighter jets considering China's fast advancements in defense.
Japan is right partner considering their long term disconnect with China.

Meanwhile this may not be liked by USA, Russia, France, etc. considering our existing relationships with them.

It is definitely not a bad deal.
Except for UK ..I think other partners are very solid.
I find it hard to trust British.

If domestic AMCA fails to arrive in time before pak get J35, For India Plan B will be Su57 interim or even FCAS long term and considering France has been more reliable despite sanctions in late 90s and weapons compatibility with rafale.

This is old news. I'm sure I heard this offer over a year ago. Possibly earlier
Yes, GCAP itself was initiated in 2022 and Japan broached the topic with India in Feb of last year. Guess this is just a formal invitation to join the same.

Countries have either turned it down or were turned down, a lot of it for strategic or cost reasons. Guess most air forces are rethinking whether in-plane human pilots will be a thing in 2035.

I think its a good idea, they should ask S Korea to join too.
I don't think Japan has strong relations with S.korea too. They are not as bad as N.korea but still due to past Japan and Koreans still don't partner much.

Beside With so many partners involved. It could make the project too complicated and might become an issue geopolitically too.

But whatever the decision is...India should not delay much.

We kept delaying on Rafale and now we are back in buying spree of Rafale. Giving France more power to come to their price point and also begging for source code.

Correct me if I am wrong but in earlier stage of buying a Fighter jet France had offered India transfer of technology too.

Now they are hesitant beside also the source code Is being denied.

As per this article, India prioritized 5.5 generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and later 6gen revision decades later. Don't know how this will be worked out in real life.
Also, by the time India works out 6th Gen, what might be capacities of other advanced countries have to be thought out.
But China has already started showing glimpse of its 6th gen fighter jet.

USA has openly declared its coming
And Russia has remained but silent on this.

So as per the article India is planning to start with concept of 6th gen in 2040 .

and the way our projects take time take another 10 years atleast so by 2050 India will have sixth generation while China would have easily moved to atleast 7.5th gen or 8th gen.

India should just join with a good partner and work on sixth generation now. By 2035 we should have moved to 6th gen.

Edit: I don't doubt our scientific minds but our babus are too much lethargic and horrible at taking slow decisions. They have already denied India lot of advanced homegrown technology due to their slow actions.

we need a miracle to advanced ourselves in making full indigenous fighter jet.
