News WWDC 2025: Did Apple Just Hit Snooze?

I use gemini so much now.. i dont see how anyone will be able to live without AI going forward on there phones.

I can literally consume so much knowledge within minutes.. I use it to summarise videos, podcasts, books.. hours worth of content trimmed down to a 30 second read.

Any curiosity questions.. just ask it by using hey google or holding the power button..

For eg i just asked it whether it was a good idea to consume magnesium and vitamin D tablets at the same time.

I use it to set countdown reminders on my phone when I'm cooking something for eg.

And i use it everyday for work and coding help on my desktop.
LIfe is about experience. You think a bookwriter couldn't summarize his book in a couple of pages. Easy come easy go. You don't even know if the information that you are getting is correct or it accurately captures the crux of the author's message. No one remembers a 30 second summary of a book.

Im not saying I'm replacing the book reading experience and movie watching experience with AI.

And everyone knows it can be incorrect sometimes.

Im merely saying if i dont have the time and i need to get the knowledge that is being shared at the higher level.. i can get that info quick using AI..

I really, really wouldnt recommend AI for either of these use cases, specially for medicine

Its actually pretty good at summarisezing yotube videos and podcasts.. especially videos for financial market updates and forecasts.. you can cut through alot of noise/shilling creators and influencers are trying to do.

Also I'm not asking it to prescribe me medicine.. I'm just asking it whether it is optimal to eat 2 supplements I am already taking.. together at the same time.. Quite a big difference between the two.

Most of it is common sense.. it's not a magic box.. but a productivity tool and it should be used as such.

Sharing a free equity research prompt to use for "deep research" a company for investing. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Don't deprive yourself of the opportunity to learn and leverage AI just because your phone or os is incapable.

Would be fun plugging this into apple intelligence and see how spectacularly it fails

As a long time iphone user i definitely feel like i am missing out on all the cool new AI integrations in pixel. I'll probably move to pixel for my next phone
Meh, pixel have some real useful features but they’re not available outside the US. Almost all AI models can contextualise images now, screen share just makes it a tad easier, if you find yourself doing it a lot it maybe useful.

If you have other Apple products it’s definitely not worth switching over, I would take the seamless experience across devices over messy on device AI integrations.

iPhones have lot of annoyances but lacking AI integration ain’t one.

We are all using AI in ways where it helps us the most, the only thing is the integration into the phone at the OS level where apple is behind. But they are not holding you back in anyway to use the AI of your choice via app or shortcuts of different companies, open AI, gemini, co-pilot etc.

Now with AI integration you will be able to do cool things because it has access to your usage pattern, data and everything. Not all but most of those things you can also do by opening any AI app. It won't be as quick but it will get the job done.

Apple showed they are working - https://machinelearning.apple.com/research/introducing-apple-foundation-models . It's not like they completely dropped the idea.

It will come for sure in some flavor, maybe not in the way we expect and will work across all their products.

The level of integration of gemini within Gmail, google search and Gemini live even now gives me those aha moments like seriously I don't need to look at my 12 year old mails to get something... I just ask it... I asked for example how has my usage, comprehension and articulation changed in last 15 years to gemini in Gmail... And it gave me such insights no other apple or chat gpt can ever give... On top of it when I asked it how can users like me have developed to the next level it again used my search behavior and gmail to give me personalised book, podcast and course recommendations

You will need to hire a life coach and spend years with them what I got above in just a month after launch. Imagine the future.
And imagine when I can finally use gemini in chrome, chromecast and google tv too, it will be another level.

apple ai can run across multiple platforms the same way but what is its use if it is so dumb that even apple stopped saying the word siri at wwdc

Although it still needs work. This was a rather simple prompt.

This was within Gmail.

dunno why y'all are celebrating gegul or Apple reading through every bit of data associated with your identity, like bro, that shit is low key terrifying to me.
I agree. I don't use AI, outside of my workspace (company account), and a few summarizations for my mother.

I like searching and reading/watching the long, unabridged versions of almost everything.. It stimulates my brain.

exactly! that 30 sec summarization/shorts/tiktok videos etc is what has led to so much brain rot and low attention span in current generation. Where are my peeps at who used to love reading shit? books, manuals, documentation or whatever, there's so much nuance that you miss out on when instead of reading a proper manual, you just read these bullshit medium or whatever articles and call yourself knowledgeable. I have seen this with many freshers today, everyone needs AI, ask them to actually explain whatever shit they wrote? its crickets.

To be honest, I still use Google Assistant on my phone. It's really enough for my needs. It also has some quirks that I love. For example, if you ask Assistant to tell you a joke, it'll give the joke, complete with a picture, gif or sound effect that compliments it. Gemini doesn't do that. Also sounds very flat pitched when delivering the joke.

Google Assistant is now completely baked into Gemini so you can use Gemini for everything you used Assistant for. Here is an example for your particular use case. Gemini Live you can select the voice from the settings and it has one of the best human AI voices in the industry and now with pauses hmm haa which humans use

In this scenario, you had to prompt it to add a GIF with the joke. Of course it will, in that instance. I know the features are built-in, but Gemini doesn't have personality, and that's just my opinion.

No prompt needed for Assistant. I just asked it for a random alligator joke. No prompt for an accompanying GIF or image:

There are good and bad ways to use these chatbots.

Bad:
- Trying to offload mental work completely to it. This is a recipe to make yourself stupid. Remember that your brain is kinda like a muscle, if you don't use it, you lose the muscle
- Ultra summarizing everything. You will lose the ability to think deeply about anything and your thoughts will be devoid of any nuance

Good:
- Using it like a search engine on steroids. Quickly find relevant info on the internet
- Learning and exploring new topics. Use it like a teacher when you're getting started
- Get mundane work done faster
