21-30k Need advice on pairing peripherals for i5 13400F

dying__lights

Beginner
Some more context - I am getting an i5 13400F for really cheap from a friend and need suggestions to upgrade some of my PC components to extract decent performance out of this processor.

my current Processor - 10400F i5.
Current graphics Card - 3060Ti FE - but will upgrade it next year.

Looking to replace the following -
1. motherboard since it doesn't support 13th gen processors. It's a B460M Mortar wifi
2. Upgrading Ram to 32GB or above (Currently 8*2 2666 MHz)

Budget - want to close the upgrades below 20k, but I can stretch to 25k.

The board you linked doesn't have wifi support.
ANy other recommendations? I specifically require wifi and at least 2 SSD slots.
it does. AX means wifi.thats the picture of the wifi module and i have this exact motherboard

For a different suggestion Why not go with this and a DDR5 setup instead,

DDR5 Motherboard with 2 NVme

DDR5 kit, Not sure if this kit will work will have do some research

DDR4 is dead at this point IMHO, you can always upgrade your CPU again in a few years and rather not buy a new DDR4 mobo in 2025.

This is my opinion and why I will not go with a new DDR4 board today.

Because ddr5 is still 2x the price of ddr4 16x2. If OP upgrades to new cpu he will need a new mobo and by then the ram prices would drop as well

Seems the board I suggested is wrong type for his CPU but still better to by a new DDR5 motherboard than a new DDR4 motherboard today.
You can find cheaper DDR5 new and used RAM here on TE for less than 8K

Updated post with LGA 1700 DDR5 WiFi motherboards. I suggest buying this than outdated DDR4 motherboards that cost the same or more.

ddr5 motherboards are atleast 2k more. ddr5 ram if brand new is 2x the price. IF used ddr4 ram should be even cheaper. I don't see the reason for ddr5 considering the future when prices will fall way more in that time. But to each their own.

The DDR4 board you suggested in 14K - Where did you get DDR5 boards are 2K more ? If he was keeping his DDR4 RAM long term then I would say go with DDR4 mobo but since he is getting new RAM better
not be stuck in the past with DDR4 mobo+ DDR4 RAM.

The DDR5 mobo I suggested in 12.4K. This is 1.6K Cheaper than the DDR4 board you suggested. This savings can go towards the DDR5 RAM.

Lastly My suggestion is directed to the OP he has the ability to come to his own decision on what to buy based on his budget. People on this forum
go Ape shit when someone suggestions a different alternative to what they suggested.

Creates a toxic forum IMHO. Something the mods on here fail to address has I have complained about this type of behavior before and nothing was done about it.

"But to each their own."

This is a rude and condescending remark something that ruins this forum and makes it toxic!

Hello,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I would prefer being slightly future proof, since I tend to upgrade major components once every 4-5 years only. Hence the gaming B760m in your updated suggestions seems to fit my bill. I don't mind spending a bit extra anyway as long as it's not wildly beyond budget.

Oh my bad, i didn't realize that ddr4 boards are cheap now. The DS3H board i purchased was for around 11k a few months ago. And for brand new ddr5 is around 8.6k vs 4.8k for ddr4 ram. CPU in my opinion is the last thing i would replace so in even 4 years time ddr5 will get significantly cheaper, and better.

Some games benefit from DDR5 VS DDR4 tested on a i5 13400, Better fps and 1% lows in many games.

OP, let's keep it simple:

Unless you plan on skipping DDR5 entirely and not upgrading from that 13400 eventually until DDR6 becomes mainstream, you may as well spend a little more and get DDR5.
