HI.. As my kids are in their late teens, thought its time to get a new gaming PC for them although the 7 yr old Ryzen 1600+RX570 is still going strong. So went with the cheapest MSI 650 mobo, cheapest 9060XT from Asrock, 9600X, Deepcool CPU cooler, XPG 32GB CL30 RAM and 1TB NVME m.2 along with a MSI case and 650 W MSI bronze power. On paper this is the best combo for the price in India which cost me around 90K. Hopefully will get GST back and hence will be a super great value in todays times for the money.

I have this engineering kid who has been assembling PCs for me and this time I took it to him and he struggled a bit to get it going as he seems to be a novice to midrange graphics cards. These are all the issues that we faced during installation which ideally should hve taken an hour..but he took hours calling friends to clarify doubts. And he ended up taking 2K which makes no sense as anyone in Nehru place in Delhi or SP road in BLR would have done it for 500. Still my worry is not the money part..but whether he installed it correctly or not. Here is the story and the little mishap that has occured that is giving me sleepless nights

(a) He could not figure out how to install the GPU on the MOBO and said its incompatible, then after we confirmed on chat GPT, called his friend and somehow got it installed
(b) Then the GPU wouldnt power on as he didnt seem to know how much power to give to GPU. Again after some clarification calls..he seems to have given more power and GPU started
(c) He said the CPU fan is not compatible and after we showed him a utube video, got it done,
(d) After we came home, the GPU fan was not spinning, so my kid took out the glass panel to see what was happening and kept it on a stone slab and it immediately shattered and started making weird pop sounds after it broke. When we called this guy he said maybe ur PC got overheated and hence GPU wasnt spinning and hence when we took out the glass and kept it on the cool slab..the temperature diff made it crack or he said we have too much static electricity and it broke - neither of which makes any sense to me. How can my PC overheat if all I am doing is installing basic softwares..not even installing or playing games?

After all the above drama, I dont think he has installed things properly. Now my PC has no glass panel and is open and I dont live in a AC flat but independent houe where all doors and windows are open all the time and hence prone to dust.

Here are my questions
(a) Can I get a new glass for this MSI case - MAG force 120A
(b) How can I check if he has installed the CPU and GPU correctly . The PC case itself has six fan..plus one CPU cooler fan and GPU has two fans..with so many fans how can my PC overheat? what tests or benchmarks do I run to check this?
(c) How do I know if he has given correct amount of power to my GPU..how do I check that

Right now I am too scared to even turn on the PC. Pls advice at the earliest. We have been waiting years to upgrade. My 11 year old Intel i5 CPU is going strong, my 6yr old Ryzen 1600 is going strong. And how is such a premium build went bust on day one?

Many thanks in advance for all your help!!!
seems I cannot edit my post..here is the weird popping sounds after the glass shattered

New glass should be possible. Trying contacting MSI support or any authorized vendor in your city.
and Tempered glass panels in these cases are very prone to shatter, I only put the tempered glass on my bed, no other solid surface.

as you said, it is very unlikely that the PC was overheating. Even if it was, the GPU fan wont stop spinning because of it. Use some software like HWinfo or AIDA64 to check the temps to be sure about the overheating thing.
If the system is booting and you arent getting any crashes or errors then the CPU should be installed fine. As for the GPU, was the fan spinning when initially installed?
How do I know if he has given correct amount of power to my GPU..how do I check that
You dont set the power to your gpu, it takes the power needed on its own, unless you are using some sort of software like MSI Afterburner or the AMD adrenaline to overclock the GPU. Is that the case?

Yeah that guy doesn't know how to assemble PCs. At all points of the build he is making excuses

Do you pictures of the build he did for you??

Glass of cases are pretty wonky depending on brand and can shatter with a light drop or keeping it on uneven surface then putting pressure on it.

A couple of points:

  1. When tempered glass is placed directly on a hard floor, even slight pressure can cause it to shatter due to the hardness difference and impact transfer. You can email MSI and check if they can send you a replacement panel
  2. Do not self-diagnose. Take the PC to a trusted shop in Nehru Place, and ask them to rebuild and test the PC, for a fee

Get your 2K back from that kid because you got scammed. Even experienced builders who do a perfect job won't charge that much, let alone this kid who has zero clue about any of this.

Thanks. But how do I know if things are set up correctly? will ask my kids to share some pics and a video. I just googled "what tests to run to check if my CPU and GPU is overheating and cooling not working properly"...so following google advice
I live in BLR..so I have to take to SP Road? is it safe to operate till then? any red flags I should look out for

Buddy sounds like you got taken for a ride. I would suggest you take your PC to Nehru Place or whatever it's equivalent is in your city, and get it checked/re-assembled by a professional. To your questions:

(a) Yes, you can mail MSI and they should be able to send you a replacement. They might charge depending on warranty terms and whatnot.
(b) Check that both the CPU and GPU are seated correctly. This video should help. Then you can bootup and run some games or benchmarks to test. Some popular benchmarks are Cinebench, Furmark and Unigine (Heaven). I'd suggest reading more about them online. I don't have much experience with benchmarking software. But do not do this before you are sure the assembly has been completed correctly.
(c) The GPU takes the needed power by itself, provided the connectors are seated properly and your PSU has enough juice. No need for you to 'give the correct power' manually.

Also your tempered glass shattered most probably because you stood it up on a hard surface (like on the floor, leaning against a wall or table), which can sometimes cause shattering to happen. Tempered glass side panels should always be laid down flat on a soft surface.

Yes, go to SP road, and go to a trusted shop such as SCL Gaming.

Don't self-diagnose, as that kid already seems to have already made a mess of things, and you don't wan't to play around with something you don't know when it comes to PC hardware.

Today don't have time. Over the weekend will go to SP Road, till then pls see the video

It looks more or less fine to me, since fans and lights are on. Just the RAM is in the wrong slots I think. Please check the mobo manual. I'd also suggest downloading Hardware Monitor to check CPU and GPU temps; if those are showing normal (in idle and load; please check online for figures) then it should not be a problem.

Also, since the monitor is displaying something, I assume the display output is from the the GPU only. But please check that also.

It's a 2 Slot board.

Everything seems to be fine. And yes fans don't spin always, they'll spin at boot and then when there is enough load they'll start spinning.

https://www.hwinfo.com/download/ go to this link and download the portable version (doesn't require an install).

Extract and run the software.

Click on Sensor only and you should get a window like this. Info of GPU, CPU and other things will be available. Minimize all dropdowns that don't show temps.

Just do normal stuff like browsing and work. After half hour of non-gaming use send Screenshot of the CPU and GPU temps here. If anything is thermally wrong it'll show up in the software.
And yeah don't close the software while using the PC. Minimise it.

Things look ok. You can do disassemble everything assemble again.

use this for reference

For Glass panel, Reach out to Msi RMA centre and ask them to procure one(will cost you) or write them a mail.

many thanks for all your responses. Once gentleman even PMd me and said he might drop by if he lives near my house.

You guys are simply great!!

Infact I wanted them to install themselves..but due to static issues..was told motherboard will get friend..so this time I said..sit next to the guy when he is installing..plus of course they always have youtube..maybe someday in near future they will takeit apart. but for now i am just scared that motherboard will get fried and fry all the components attached to it and a nice 80K loss for me :(

let me follow all the advices given above. god bless u guys!!

Well, it's not that hard honestly. Just a little bit care, and everything works. Just do research properly before doing the build, read manuals/watch videos, and everything will fine.

I have been changing components, doing upgrades to my old pc since I was 14, and recently I built a complete PC on my own. It's not hard as long as you are careful.

True..i am not so much worried about the difficulty part..with internet and youtube..nothing is difficult now a days. Only worry is they short any component...with GPU costing 35K and all.bit worried. I have been buying Sonoff...the smart relay..from aliexpress from 2017 onwards and my kids have been handling it since they were 12-13. Just that in case of smart home...loss is 1-2K...here stakes are higher..hence...

The guy who built it told that to you? While yes it may be a concern to some extent, it not such a big issue that seems to be put in your mind, multiple big time youtubers (inc. ltt , zachs tech turf etc.) that build pcs never actually do anything to avoid static electricity as it is not a big concern.. Also ltt did a video few years ago with electroboom and had concluded that its not that big of a deal..

Plus I agree with others that the pc looks fine in the video, but if there is some overheating issue, hwinfo will help point that out..
