You are absolutely right. Their servers DO NOT get corrupted and I have used them in US, Canada, UK, Belgium, New Zea Land and all over India, regardless of service provider.
Here in Gujarat BSNL is providing EVDO service at Rs. 550/= per month + taxes, 2 mbps unlimited.
The initial cost however is Rs. 4500/=. Too much in my opinion for trying out a new service.
There is another math involved. What is the power consumption of your PC and what are the going rates? I have tested a number of PCs and the average consumption on 24 hour basis is about 4 to 5 units per day. You must factor in that cost.
Unfortunately in India we do not get laptop CPUs...
Port forwarding is strictly a modem / router function. I has nothing to do with windows.
To test simply disable firewall and then test. You will know where the problem lies.
Less said about Tata service in the 2 metros - Delhi and Mumbai better it is.
Their customer service sucks to the nth degree. False billing due to server error is very common place occurrence. You can forget getting credit if there is an error.
