Why are threads locked and posts deleted without citing any reason(s)?

And this is not just sale forms, but other threads and posts too. I've had posts of mine in different threads removed without informing me, and even after asking, I've not been given any answer (whether I've broken the rules or anything). As good as the mods are, to me ateast, there seems to be quite a lack of transparency as to how and on what bases decisions are taken by them, at least wrt the deletion of posts and locking of threads.

Or is there a place where a record of all such decisions is kept and I'm missing the obvious??? Thank you.

It would be nice to get an automated PM with a reason that mods can include while deleting the posts, not sure if such a system is possible. I've had a few posts deleted, but didn't bother me much and learned to ignore. Half the time I didn't realize they were gone. This is probably more work for the mods, especially since they'll be deleting a lot of newbies' posts who are spamming to get market access.

I agree, a reason should be cited while closing threads. Even if it is apparent, it's just good practice.

Honestly, I think most forums are not a democracy and we don't really have any rights, so they don't need to worry much about their reasons being questioned.

Because some mods are scared of anything beyond tech...but not all of them. Some are really cool though.
And forums like these are dying because of this. They become breeding grounds for scavengers looking for tech deals only, and nothing else.
It's sad, because there are still many genuinely knowledgeable and nice geeks hang out here.

TE had very lacklustre participation till about a year ago when Erodov closed down and there was a large influx of members at that time.

The 'tech' posts are just in order to reach the marketplace selling criteria, today TE is primarily a marketplace forum rather than a tech one.

But some members still choose to visit the avoidable general section, report threads there because they just don't like the content, and some mods oblige them by deleting content and locking threads.

Perfect example is deleting my posts in the coffee thread which is certainly not a tech thread. Why the double standards and hypocrisy?

^^ One of the awesome techies here, who saved a lot of my money on international data charges.
And we never even seen one another ever, but felt instant connection. WhatsApp mein bohot problem ho raha hain bhai, but will fix it myself ( it's supposed to be very easy, but somehow can't import all my contacts in this stupid stupid iphone)

Man, compared to some of the really smart techies here, i feel like a n00b even with over 25 years of hands on experience. I know a little but what i don't know is far more...

I think there were some threads here on TE saying you can't really transfer between Android and iPhone whatsapp easily.

No..no..not contents, I can't find a single contact saved in this phone itself back in India.
Mate, when you sometimes change the topic suddenly which has nothing to do with the thread, then it is certainly a little irritating. You know I don't mind your opinions on anything and actually look forward to reading your posts, but maybe try and stay a little disciplined and treat a thread as a forum thread and not general chat. Also you have this new found love for hindi, but TE actually has a rule of only using English. Our mods have been very generous of late and not imposed this rule strictly, but it is still a rule that I verified by asking the mods.
I hope you'll take the contents of this post as constructive criticism as that is all it is intended to be and I hope I haven't come across as rude or harsh.

Totally.. I'm glad stuff was deleted from the Coffee thread. Just picked on a random thread. Came polluted it with your "world views" and boom....

The problem is that some members think they're always right and want to prove superiority for some reason instead of having a level headed discussion.
Then the thread goes OT and turns toxic, the ego clashes commence and people resort to name-calling, forcing the mods to close the thread entirely.
To top it off some other members sneak in their Modi bashing comments in unrelated non-political threads for no reason triggering his followers which leads to even more toxicity and arguments.

TBH we should be more like Team-BHP where a post doesn't even get approved if it's slightly OT, here on TE a lot of threads go off the rails by the time it reaches the second page.

True, all true. Somehow I can't send any DM to anyone, only reply.
But yes, you're right. I knew about the language rules.

Okay, I only shared my general view on this earlier. If this is about the Coffee thread then no idea since I didn't look at it.
To be frank, of late I've noticed some drama in the General/Off Topic section and I find the tech sections peaceful and more enjoyable, but that's just me.
Chill guys, there's enough drama in real life. Let threads stay on topic too, that's one of the main reasons for closures I believe.

What we need is a 'Sticky' General Chat thread in the General Talk section. That was how it was done in the XDA Marketplace. So instead of a chatbox, which many forums also have, it is a sticky thread where one can just come and have a chat with people who are online.
That is where we used to hangout in the XDA MP and talk about anything we wanted with our friends without disturbing other threads with our random thoughts. Made some great friends just from that thread.

It's high time all the forums with more than certain amount of members, which make them active, have ombudsmen involved. All the users, along with mods and admins should be held accountable for their actions (or inactions).

Yeah, i was proving a point, which was in the end.

That other elite member also popped into a random thread and reported it. Also lots of complaints about non-tech. Isn't coffee non-tech too? I did exactly what he did. Different results though. So again, why the double standards?

I am on TeamBHP and this will involve a lot of work for you. I never had a post deleted there or here but they do correct you, even for punctuation. I had few of my posts corrected for Punctuation.

I do agree with the sentiment that this has become more of a 'buy-sell-trade' website and the profile limitations aren't too helpful in directing people to the rest of the community. I'm fully guilty of this as I moved from Erodov, which also I was using to get good deals (I didn't get any deals from Erodov but in a way it informed me of the second hand market prices).

I can imagine moderation being very difficult, and the suggested MO of TeamBHP (Mods approving everything) just doesn't seem feasible. I do think OT threads in sales should be moved to general or something, that way at least people will check out the other forums and try to engage with other posts/users.
