Usenet - Discussion thread

Never tried usenet. I was on some private trackers for a while and it was rare that a file I wanted couldn't be found between a mix of public/private trackers. Maybe if I was more into collecting obscure media and the datahoarding side of things, I could see myself using it.

usenet isn't for collecting niche stuff, it's for downloading stuff which is already there on PTs but without the hassle that comes with PTs such as seeding/ratio etc.

basically you give money for convenience unlike say a normal PT where you could just get by with seeding on a laptop

Eweka recently have a really good deal running on King's day where they offering 37.5 Euros/15 months which is roughly 2.5 Euros/month, I already have a Eweka subscription running and have grabbed this deal making my subscription total be roughly 25 months,

Does anyone want to split the cost with me? I'll take 25 Euros upfront and will share my account for the full 25 months, making it roughly 1 Euro/month, Caveats

1. No Sharing with others, if I get my account on Eweka restricted for multiple IPs, I will stop the sharing immediately with no refunds.
2. I wont do monthly subscriptions, its 25 Euros upfront or nada
3. You NEED an indexer along with Eweka to make use of Usenet,
if you dont have an indexer, you can get an invite to DrunkenSlug or Dog pretty easily from r/UsenetInvites,

I am willing to offer proofs to the account and can give a grace period of a day to try the provider out,

I have been using NewsNetNinja for a while now and can highly recommend it.

I’m currently on the $8/mo plan and it completely saturates my 1Gbps network with 45 connections.

Waiting for a BF/CM sale to upgrade to the annual plan or get Eweka at a nice deal.

That’s a great deal. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that renews at full price after 15 mo, right?
yep but it stacks, so if you get this twice, you'll get 30 months instead, it's eweka just throwing out incredible deals so that we will keep paying upfront for it

That's a crap deal, just grab eweka or any other provider deal you want, other providers have also put out some great deals on kings day, black Friday will roll around and then you can extend further

There is a deal on Newshosting.com which is there on reddit here, for ~$24 for 1 year.
I purchased it, working gr8 for me so far. Works really gr8 as compared to frugal which has not been working well for me after they switched backbones earlier this year.

nope, that and the other one are at the top but are impossible to get into unless you know someone
What are these unnamed indexers that are being discussed here? Is there a rule on those sites to not name them.

Whats the other one? I'm at deleted. Looking for a backup. Also have slug and a few others I forgot.
If you are at one of the two unmentionable indexers (one starts with O other starts with N) then you don't really need the other one. They are actually not even required for majority & mostly for ppl who are very picky about their releases like only getting XYZ ep01 from ABC group but not DEF group.

Thanks yeah, I've heard that content on O is mostly there on top tier torrent trackers as well. So I guess O would be useful in case releases on top trackers are dead, which happens rarely.

nope, they got a lot of niche content that you wont find on anything other than the top 3 or the niche trackers, its not just different release groups, its all the different series/movies too

Someone I know has both "O" indexer as well as ninja & he find some obscure stuff like some "fan made"/"independent or small production" videos related to pc game franchise/adaptation etc available on ninja but not on "O" I guess because of not satisfying their criterion of a "proper release". In any case, I have heard that ninja has a request section in their discord where one can request niche stuff & good chances it will be fulfilled soon. For niche stuff, usenet can't beat good pvt trackers anyway. Also, I have heard that usenet has more German stuff than most pvt trackers.

P.S. How do you manage to pay for usenet subscription at the time of renewal anyway because new RBI rules made it impossible for any merchant to process auto subscription charges except for a list of around 100 merchants out of which less than 12 are foreign merchants? Do you just keep stacking whenever new deals come?

yeah, ninja is good for weirdo stuff but on the flipside they dont have any quality control, the big O has way better QC but its more likely someone just hasnt posted it there, they are pretty liberal with whats allowed to be posted, as for german stuff, all indexers get their content from Private Trackers/Top Sites, you just need to join a German tracker for more german content but yeah german content is hard to source because of Germany's almost anal-esque laws against Piracy

yeah, cards wont work, I use Paypal with original currency (no conversion) to pay for it, and stacking is the way tp go with Usenet, their regular deals are crap, Providers are going to be increasing their prices soon, so its a good idea to stack now if you have got the dough, I already have for the next 25 months, would probably go for more, bur 2 years seem more than enough to me

I have used ninja trial acc in the post & it's best point I found is the speed with which it reuploads taken down latest mainstream stuff sometimes by reuploading 5-6 times same copy of taken down stuff within 24 hours. There are 2-3 very popular German usenet boards/forums which are the best source of German content on usenet & all usenet indexers got German stuff mostly through them only.

2 years is more than enough. You never know what changes in 2 years like what happened with frugal & earlier former omicron resellers.
