Does the Flipkart "Open Box Delivery" include actually testing the item ? (monitor in this case)

As the title says if I buy a monitor from FK with "Open Box Delivery", can I actually test the monitor before accepting it?
This will take quite a while, right ? To unbox it, connect it to the PC etc.
 
It is there to ensure they transfer all culpability to you...that's the reason to have it

often times we have to push the delivery guy to open and show...forget open and show and test...as they keep stressing sir next delivery pe jana hai...aap app se kar lena baad mein

I bought LG monitor a while back with open box COD from FK. I kept my laptop and a plug point ready and as the delivery guy came and opened the box I asked him I would have to check it before giving the otp and he didn't mind, so in a matter of of few minutes the whole transaction was done. So it may partially depend on the delivery guy, but making their life easy by having a testing platform ready helps. Never share OTP unless you're completely satisfied.

This is an Amazing Idea. Keep Test platforms ready. Keep it smooth and fast. If you delay, the delivery person will crib and push.

In addition to Physical Condition, the phone MUST switch on. You MUST NOT give OTP before. You accepting a non-working product transfer the liability to you. But if you reject the delivery, the liability remains with Delivery Agent/Agency.

Honestly, as @animishticomb pointed out, the Open-Box Condition is to PROTECT Flipkart. NOT the consumer/end-buyer. Oftentimes, Delivery Takes place when the actual buyer is NOT at home. At this time, you have to give OTP. Flipkart and the Delivery Agencies takes advantage of this aspect.

Amazon has an even worse policy. 7 Days Service Center of the BRAND of the product. Amazon seems to have wiped its hands clean of any liability and responsibility.

Wouldn't let you switch the phone on even? Wouldn't take long to check that
 
Just pay the delivery boy 100 bucks as tip. He will be more than happy to wait for 15 mins while you test the monitor. They dont mind as long as you do it in front of them.

Honestly, there should a thread of "Best Practices of accepting deliveries" to maximize the probability of getting good products delivered safely and successfully.
I am compiling some tips to begin. Please add as per experience/knowledge:
1. Be Polite with the Delivery Person. Ask him/her water or wait inside for a few minutes
2. Tip the Delivery Person. They would happily wait for a few minutes.
3. Keep all testing apparatus (Laptop, Cables, Electricity Extension Boards) read for use to test with the delivered product.
4. Inform family members about Open Box delivery and tell them NOT to share OTP quickly.
5. Avoid buying "Non-Returnable" Items.
6. If testing is not possible during Open-Box, at least record the procedure before giving the OTP.
 
AFAIK, open-box delivery is only for checking that you got the exact model and there are no hardware damages in transit.

Also, don't buy products that doesn't have 7-days replacement policy and check the seller before you order.

I'm curious why people buy open box from Flipkart after all the times people note issues with it. You'd think it would be easier to buy from local stores, are the discounts offered sufficient to risk it? Personally I tend to buy most things from offline stores, often places where I know the people having bought from them multiple times. Could there be another reason other than price to buy online?

The idea seems a good one. It allows sellers a way to sell items that were returned inevitably with box open. This way customers don't get stuck with this non-refundable only replacement trap. Win win right?

As for the issues i don't know why that happens unless the platform is being lenient with fraudulent sellers. Whose behaviour is spoiling things for everyone.

I suppose there are reasons, I don't really see online shopping as useful in general. The main exception (for me) are products not available locally.
 
Ya, what I've decided is to go to Prime and see if they have the LG monitor I have in mind 24GS60F,

I haven't been to Lamington Road in quite a while :)

The last LG monitor I bought was from Prime about 10 years ago. When I found it had a few dead pixels (when I used it the first time), they replaced it right away. But it involved one more trip to Lam Rd.

In case there might be confusion, the 'open box delivery' here is an option offered on some products by some sellers on Flipkart, and refers to to brand new and sealed products that will be opened before you at the time of delivery to ensure that the product inside is genuine. It is not referring to 'open box' items, which would be expected to be discounted further due to being unsealed.
 
I bought a laptop recently. The delivery guy had already opened the seal of the outer box by the time I came down the stairs. Thankfully the laptop original box was sealed, so i wasn't too upset. He opened the box in front of me. The screen was cracked. I returned it promptly.

The replacement came 4-5 days later. This time, when he called, I told him on the phone to wait till I get to the door before opening anything. He opened both outer cardboard box and the original box in front of me. The laptop looked undamaged from every angle. He asked me for the pin, but i said wait, let me turn it on. He looked impatient but complied. It did not turn on. He asked me to plug in the charger. I did and it did turn on, finally. Only then did I give the pin to him.

Overall, a tense and rushed experience. They could try to make it easier for the customer. Lots of room for improvement.

I don't think with amazon you can withold pin and tell them to open the package. They will just walk out. If you give them the pin they will open the parcel but then you can't send it back with the same person. You will have to schedule a pick up the day after.

Yes, it was Flipkart. Open box delivery.
 
Recently bought laptop from Flipkart. Delivery opened the package checked everything clicked photos and then handed it over for me to check. I said let me start it and check, he said open box delivery is to check damage, accessories and correct product is received. DOA is handled by customer care etc. Bribing the wish master seems a good idea, if the product is DOA he can immediately take it back without any extra hassle.
