Looking for a 4G/5G Travel Router (WiFi/MiFi)

Hi guys,

Next month I will traveling for family medical reasons.

While out I will need some of internet connectivity to enable me to work while travelling.

I'm looking for a (preferably battery powered) router that takes in any 4G/5G SIM and creates a hotspot.

I don't want to use my phone for the same reason as I will be taking calls on it as well.

Ideally I would like a device that works on any carrier.

If you have any suggestions please let me know!

Thanks

You need a router that can take 4G/5G SIM with Wi-Fi AP connectivity. Integrated battery might not be a good idea as continuously establishing a cellular connection and offering a Wi-Fi hotspot simultaneously, would drain battery quickly.
You could try connecting the device with a portable battery pack.
The TP-Link TL-MR3020 is good choice but it needs a USB modem.
Conbre MT-200 Portable seems like a suitable solution. But it is limited to 4G. In fact, most of such devices seem to be restricted to 4G, presumably because 5G is power hungry.

I want something with an inbuilt battery and the Conbre MT-200 seems to have awful reviews.

Alternatively, you can purchase a pre-owned 5G-capable smartphone. This would ensure you are primary phone is free to take calls. The secondary device would act as a battery-powered 5G modem with Hotspot capabilities.

If you have an older JioFi, you can root it to work with any SIM provider. I've rooted and installed the firmware on mine, and it seems to work on Airtel, though I've only tested it once. I don't need it much, but I'm not sure where I kept it lol
I'll be returning to Pune next week or so, and can search and test if you want to go down this route.
No 5G though. The best option for a 5G modem + hotspot is a cheap Android phone + a powerbank. And a cool place, because running both 5G and Hotspot makes the device hot. Really hot.

Yes.. the 5G + Wi-Fi hotspot on a smartphone + continuous usage + moving constantly could be a dangerous combination.
4G JioFi would be a much more reliable and safer option. It is quite easy to install third-party firmware too.

Ended up buying this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164402050111

It's pretty damn hefty and very feature packed, tested with Airtel and Jio :)

Which is basically rolling your own. I was referring to a router with OOTB 5g functionality.
Those 5G modules are very costly. The ones selling in Ali appear to be engineering samples.
