5V, 0.6A Adapter wire extension (TL-WR820N Router)

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing fine.

I needed to extend the wire of the 5V, 0.6A adapter so that the router can be positioned in a better place. I had on old non-working wired keyboard lying around so I cut the USB cable at 2 ends (I had no other wire lying around), and out of the 4 wires of a USB cable, I joined 2 wires at both the ends to reduce the resistance (refer the attached diagram for better understanding). I used the USB wire to extend the adapter wire for an extra 80 cm length.

Now whenever I start the router, it starts booting up, LED lights start coming ON one by one but as soon as the WiFi LED comes ON, the router reboots. I removed the USB wire and tried again by conencting the original wires and it worked fine.

What could be the issue here? Is it because of too high resistance of USB wire? I thought there won't be much potential drop over a small length of 80 cms. Will getting thicker wire help?

TIA.

Use normal piece of electrical copper wire instead of usb wires
Thanks, I'll buy usual electrical wire today.

Also on a side note why not use a simple extension box which cost only 150 bucks ..
On the grounds of aesthetics, my pitch for extension cable/box was thrown outside the window.

Did you cut the original wire from the center?
Not exactly at the centre, at 10:90 mark, near to the barrel jack. YOLO :p

Update:
Connected using regular electrical wire. Working fine now.

:stop: Never do such things. The more joints you put in the cable the chances of resistance increasing is high, unless you solder/crimp them properly.
I had mostly stopped doing such jugaads in the recent years but there's absolutely no harm if it is done properly. Yes, I made sure that the joints are prefect. Thanks.

By the way these things exist.
Economically they didn't make much sense in my case. They are sold for 200-300 rupees online, searching in offline market takes effort + lots of time. Almost similar results were achieved with 20 rupees wire.

Sorry for going off-topic, but I have several Dlink and TP-Link switches. Some need 9V adapters, and some need 6V. Where can I find these adapters, and how much do they cost?

I wanted to power my 12v router using a power-bank so I found an old usb cable and a old dc adapter, cut both the cables and joined usb to dc jack
The router would boot up but after 30-60 secs would reboot itself
As Heisen said it could be due to the resistance and insufficient power
So I bought this male dc jack for 20/- and joined the same usb cable to it and it works perfectly

Yaa, initially it was not working definitely due to high resistance leading to voltage drop. I tried refreshing the joint twice with the old USB cable. The results were same both times. After changing the cable, it is working well.
