This is probably a different view but I usually don't buy anything abroad. Whatever I want from whatever country I import, if available.

I'm not sure what isn't clear. I'll elaborate a bit. Personally if travelling abroad then I prefer not to shop for things there rather I prefer to import what I want from a given country by shipping the product to India. I find this to be easier and I am able to buy exactly what I want, opposed to being limited to the local offerings of the market(s) I visit when there in person. I'll note sometimes this means reaching out to the manufacturer directly, and not shopping online.
Okay. Makes sense for particular stuff but importing also means extra shipping time and cost + customs + risky of wrong/missing items.
I had once imported jacket..wrong size , color plus even wrong item.
after few email exchanges they gave me a voucher and small amount refunded.
Importing is not exactly a good idea in India atleast specially when one is already travelling abroad.

Particular stuff? This is the only way I have ever shopped. If you mean "general" buying, particularly impulse buying then I don't have anything to add. This is not me or my thoughts. So in this case for people who simply want to buy anything because they are visiting another country they might be happier to buy in person.

I haven't been there but from what i've seen over the years in anime, movies, nhk world japan tv, other various youtube cooking channels, there's very little stuff there that is pure veg. Everything has either egg, chicken, beef, pork or fish in it in one form or other. It's an island so vegetables and fruits are costly.
From what i saw online, some sweets are pure veg. Like a fish shaped sweet with red bean filling. Some sandwiches in Lawson or was it 7/11 made of only cream and strawberry+kiwi or other fruits. Some rice onigiri with plum filling. The outer wrapper is sea weed which is vegetarian but smells like fish I've heard. And most probably curry rice which is made from potatoes and carrots and radish and rice. But curry can mean even eggs, chicken and pork or beef bits are added to it so avoid if not sure. Probably yakisoba pan (bread stuffed with noodles and vegetables) might be pure veg. There are Indian restaurants.
Edit: That fish shaped sweet called Taiyaki actually has egg in the batter so it's not pure veg. Most batter has eggs added to it. From tempura to okonomiyaki. Better stick to original Indian restaurants where you can eat known Indian veg food. For coffee. tea, soda you can go to 7/11 for cheap stuff.
