Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel (Used)

Figuring stuff out
Herald
Hi everyone, I am looking at the captioned racing wheel in the used market, and the seller has offered it at 30K. He claims that it has been used only for 3 months, but it is 1.5 years old and out of warranty.

Any advice on whether it is a better option at that price point in comparison with a new G29?

g29 new is for the same, right?

^^ what enthusiast29 said, while the thrustmaster is better, used and without warranty for 29k is not a good deal, for someone who's new to sim racing, both will feel good, go with the G29 imo

Thanks guys. Is there merit in getting a used one from here or OLX - if it comes at around 18K?

As of now, I personally feel more comfortable with the idea of getting it new due to the warranty unless there was some warranty left on a used G29, or in case I can get it for a larger discount but I am a little bit concerned because as a newbie, I would not really know if there are any issues with the used wheel, even if I test it out for an hour or so before buying.

Only if you're sure you've found a genuine deal & are unsure if you'd spend your money's worth of time playing such games. This was me not long ago:
I'm being advised to not spend too much on this right away, as most people seem to do so and then end up not using it much. Knowing myself, this is very much likely in my case as well.
... and I'm starting to see why I was advised so.

But if you're sure you would spend your money's worth of time & have some money to spare, buying new is worth it for the peace of mind and warranty.

But, do keep in mind that the resale value of these are nowhere near what marketplaces like Olx make it look like. You can see from how a 3 month old wheel is worth half-the-price at best.

Interesting. Thanks to you and @altair21 for that. What is the best place to buy used btw ? Is it places like TE or are there reddit /FB markets ? I quit FB a long time ago, and don't really want to go back there, but I will if I must for this.

And just to double check - half the price at best for 3 months old sounds brutal ! I am looking at a credible seller (looks like a genuine guy, and reasonably savvy) who is asking for 22k ish for a 6 month old G29 + shifter which is still just 32% off on the price of a new combo.

sounds brutal
It is. Post pandemic this has turned out to be more of a buyer's market; most don't have as much time for this now. So the market place is just flooded. In fact, I've read (I think on Team-BHP) about people buying the wheel that I got for much less than what I paid, even before pandemic. So, seems like it's actually been more brutal before, and price hikes during the pandemic on new products, make current used offers from sellers sound reasonable.

In that sense, the best place would be where there are many options. Haven't seen as many here; so unfortunately, requires a lot more diligence. Still, the bottom-line remains the same: buying new is worth the peace of mind. I feel like it's worth only that though, which sucks.

I have that wheel with the t3pa pedals and th8a shifter, its great
only buy if you're gonna use it a lot tho, I barely used mine for about 15 hours since I got it about 6 months ago

I am also looking for a wheel. This will be used primarily on Xbox s . based on the data sheet G29 is for PS5 . is there a way i can make it work on xbox?
if not what would be an alternate solution as G293 @37 K is way above my budget .

Get a new g29, no point in taking a risk for 2-3k
