Home air purifiers effective for improving indoor air quality?

Is air quality information from Google maps reliable?
Are there any cheap reliable AQI monitors? I was waiting for the IKEA one to come back in stock but the listing page itself has disappeared.

How much does the filter replacements cost you and how long do they last?
Do they filter from 230 to under 50?
 
Yes, I own an air purifier and the difference is there. I keep it running on auto and it makes the room "very breathable" within an hour. If you live at a place where aqi is booming, you should've bought an airpurifier yesterday.
If money is no object, get dyson. If you don't want to go all out, get coway. If you just need one for time being, get xiaomi.
 
So based on the reviews and recommendations here on TE and otherwise, I see Coway Airmega 150 is a fairly good device but for me the only negative is its huge size. I won't be able to keep it in my already crowded bedroom.

Edit: Just realized, all the listed dimensions are for carton size. The purifier itself is relatively smaller. Who puts the carton size in product dimensions. :facepalm:

It is a good air purifier. I'm using it for the past 4 years. Only possible downside is the absence of aqi display.
 
@Renegade so what did you decide? I would like to have an aur purifier with AQI mentioned. And will obviosly want to spend reasonably less money (well under 10k If possible) and don't have lot of recurring costs.

Suggestions from other members too invited.

Went with the 5K Levoit Core Mini. It does not have smart app or AQI display and it suitable only for rooms upto 178sqft. The room I needed it for is 120sqft. It fit my requirements, has good reviews and was cheap. Its filter cannot be washed but it can be vacuumed. As long as it is cleaning the air I dont care what the display says. I would know if it is effective in a few days if my wife starts feeling better. As Tracer_Bullet said, at the end of the day it is just a fan with a filter, how complex can it be.

However, if I were looking to spend 10K, I would have gone for the Phillips AC950. Which I might as my second air purifier for the other bedroom if I find this Levoit one effective. These damn allergies leading to frequent and persistent cough and cold are pesky.

Accurate sensor helps a lot in being able to see effectiveness as well as problems/spikes. ikea sensor is nice and cheap, but it seems they have unlisted it.

Inspite of all of this, my room gets dusty quickly within a few days with 100+ PM10 outside, will need airtight room to improve upon that.
But still air is better and my asthma/allergies are much better so far but not gone. Heavier dust settles down so not not caught by AP. That we can then probably inhale when lying on bed/from curtains/pillows etc.
 
Having an AQI sensor is important. Otherwise, you will have no idea how much pollution you are letting in.

I live in a not-so-polluted part of Pune. And, if I open windows even for 5 minutes, the PM 2.5 sensor goes from excellent to worse. I live on the first floor, so there's no wind here.

It's in my AC. It's only 2.5 pm, though. I'm using AC as an air purifier these days.

Before anyone mentions, AC isn't a perfect air purifier. The air has to cycle through it several times to become perfectly clean. Then, there are third-party AC filters that can help clean more air at the expense of airflow.

Anyway, I think I need to get a proper sensor which can calculate 0.1 and 10 pm particles as well as hazardous gases. But these monitors cost almost as much as a good air purifier.
