Suggestions for White Noise Player

There is a high-rise (40+) society being constructed near my society. In summers, due to AC noise, we are not much disturbed but winter nights are very very quite and the noise coming form outside is disturbing (although it is on a halt temporarily because of NCR GRAP-4).

So I want to give a try to white noise player like:

But it can run only for 60 minutes max. Is there a device/combination of devices that can play some audio like this for 8 hours?

There are youtube videos also:

How to play a 10 hours YT video (only for sound, audio can me extracted as MP3 from YT videos) at low volume with minimum power consumption?

Hey. If you have any Apple Device like iPhone or iPad, you may try connecting it to your speaker or headphones and activate “Background Sounds”.

It is available in Control Center and can be added for easy access.

I use it frequently and for looooong durations.

I have android devices only like mobile phones, tab, fire tv stick, nvida shield.

Also have Echo Flex, Echo shows.

Don't have a separate bluetooth speaker. Have a bluetooth soundbar in bedroom which is connected to TV via Aux.

Use ear plugs instead of doing all this hifi countering noise with noise solution. I uise 3M ear plugs and it blocks > 70% noise coming from outside. Even effective in reducing DJ noise from those huge party or stadium speakers by around 30%. I cant sleep without the ear plugs now. Even neighbours kids talking loudly outside is too much for me.

Don't have a separate blue tooth speaker other than a bluetooth soundbar in bedroom.
White noise solutions can be largely personalised and most effective in headphones/IEMs.

I think, if you want technical solution then YouTube white noise with headphones seem workable for Android.

If you decide to go with analog solutions as suggested by @6pack I would recommend getting this I used to use this back in the day. It worked very well.

My wife will not put anything in her ears for whole night.

If white noise can be played with any of the existing devices (or combination) I have, there is no harm in trying it for a couple of nights.

Cheap devices like that are not worth it

The unit that gets recommended is by a brand called Lectrofan

Its more flexible and runs off the mains. You will have to check what voltage it needs.

Here is a comparison with others so you get an idea of what to look for.

The trouble with recordings is you can't tweak them for your use case. This flexibility is what seperates the more expensive white noise machines from the cheaper ones.

More flexible options on that website.

https://mynoise.net/noiseMachines.php

Try with this website and when you find what works look for standalone device with that sound. Since you said the AC blocks out the noise then that is the kind of noise you want to emulate.

There is also an app by the same people

Check this guide for how to reduce sounds. A combination of white noise and earplugs.

White noise machine doesn't work for low frequencies. Only earplugs or ear protectors will work for that.

Identify what sound you want to mask. It helps if you can figure out what the dominant frequencies are. Use a spectrum analyser

Just play any sleep sound playlist of choice on repeat. They are quiet soothing and I find it relaxing too. Sometimes I play it while reading to help concentrate.

PS: I use apple music.

Thanks. Do you play on mobile, earphones, bluetooth speaker or any other device?

Playing on mobile is a good option but I prefer speakers as they sound more room filling without being loud than a mobile would.

In audacity software you can generate white noise MP3 of any length, I have generated one with length of 10 hours. Now you have got the MP3 you wanted.

Buy this cheap MP3 Module. It is good quality and produces lossless decoding.

Copy the white noise MP3 file to either a USB drive or an SD CARD, and plug that in the board. This board will play that file over and over, once it reaches the end, it takes about 1-2 second to repeat the playback. So with 10 Hour file, there will be silence for about 1-2 seconds after 10 hour.

You have to power it with 5V, any microUSB phone charger will work with the above module and you got an AUX output. Connect any speakers you have.

I used this cheap sound bar, connected to the above module. Worked fine.

In combination to the above setup, use the 3M noise cancelling earplugs.

Carefully read the instructions on how to use them, you have to twist it first and put in the ear in the same twisting motion, keep holding it in and wait for the plug to go back to it's normal form, creating a proper seal.

Any noise that doesn't get blocked by the plugs will be muffled by the white noise.
