What do you think about the street food videos being made of India?

There's a lot of "negative" street food videos -> Negative in the sense that Ytbers go to to stalls making food in bad, unhygienic conditions (like dipping hand in food, dirty bowls, dirty place, dirty water etc)
I've seen lot of dumb Indians target these type of videos saying they are doing it for views or for making fun of india etc. But just a few of us even think that we Indians should wake up and start looking at the cleanliness and hygiene point of view of the food business. Instead of blaming the govt, why don't we blame these food stall owners for making such dirty food and selling it? Why blame the messenger (the YT creators)?

What is your views on these type of videos? Hate them, like them? Don't see them? Ignore them? :D
 
This is a SAD reality in most parts of India. The person showing the mirror is the culprit. Really the govt should have some strict policy on the food vendors, since its related to health issue.

If people decide to stop eating from those vendors that don’t maintain good hygiene, it might push them to either improve their practices or even close down. A few unsanitary instances don’t tell the whole story. India is a big country, and when we focus on just a small number of negative examples, we are neglecting 99.9% of vendors who are committed to maintaining better hygiene standards.

As soon as the vendor touches the food with his bare hands, i cant watch it any further and immediately dislike the video....can't fathom the idea someone on streets selling food unhygienically touching it with bare hands....:yuck::yuck::sour::sour:

Blaming it on the YT creators is a shortcut, while escaping the question as to why these shops have so low hygiene standards, and why do even people eat there?
I think these shops still have customers because of the low selling prices and nothing else. I am unable to think as to why would anyone eat here if they have a cleaner shop to buy from.
Also, when we have close to 60% of the population benefiting from free ration scheme, it is pertinent to have these low cost but unhygienic shops to exist.
 
It's all a circle.

Firstly street vendors occupy literally the "footpath". We encourage them by purchasing from them despite knowing the food is not hygenic.
Yes, there is an agenda to portray Indians as 'dirty' but we don't help ourselves.

Only people who wear gloves and stuff are those vendors who are given space outside big/famous shops. But in majority of these places the pricing is higher so people prefer street vendors.
 
Some well-known restaurants are no better.

Hyderabad is in the limelight, for example. The FSSAI has flagged multiple well-known eateries for disgusting hygiene practices, such as storing raw and cooked meat together, open dustbins next to cooked food, expired ingredients, roach/rat infestation, etc.

How to reach critical mass though?

Where the vendors sense it and it has to be many of them

Without some viral online campaign I can't see it happening and it needs to be in numerous languages
 
A street food vendor going to the public loo and then using hus barehands to make Gol Gappe / Pani puri etc , I have seen it so many times with my own eyes ugh

Having said that Indian street food or chaats are anmazing imo the way they dangle your taste buds is otherworldly experience . Is sad all this stuff gives bad name to Indian steeet food . I generally end up going to Haldiram and stuff to eat my chaats as it’s hygienic there .

You mean 99.9% vendors who are serving no hygienic food right?

According to my own made up stats, 98.9999 % of food prepared anywhere(street/restaurant/house) are unhygienic and but the 1% sells literally poisonous food. People don't care about hygiene, they just want a good ambience & presentation from vendors. If most of the Indians aren't piss poor they wouldn't put up a dirty shop on the street in the worst way possible. BTW Fssai is a ****ing joke like the rest of the dept.

Not at all advisable, however there is no conclusive research on this it seems.

Videos of unsanitary food vendors is the new slum tourism.

Earlier there used to be few shops in nooks and corners with reputation for unique and good food, trend then changed due to social media influence and foreigners wanting to eke a few views on low standards in India.

Totally irrespective of social media, authorities should be helping with the hygiene and standards situation.

Even the health inspectors are a joke. I had relatives in the hotel industry and got to hear lot of stories of how these guys show up only to take bribes and go away without checking anything. Some of them threaten to file false cases just to get more money. We can tell the govt to make rules strict etc, but the inspectors checking will be as corrupt as any other govt employee and in the end only the price of food will increase. I think most Indians don't have any moral sense in them. Zero care for the country or their own fellow countrymen. This is why we see people spitting gutka/pan on road, or littering everywhere like they own the place. Our education syllabus should have an entire subject on how to be well mannered both inside and outside the country and keep cleanliness and hygiene. Hopefully then something might happen (in an ideal situation). But who knows what will happen....
