Need help with router capabilities for Airtel fiber plan upgrade

Hi all,

I currently use Airtrel Extreme Fiber broadband and on the 300 Mbps plan. Works fine on the router provided by them - Sercomm AOT-4221SR. Wifi speeds don't matter to me, since my main PC runs ethernet. I plan on upgrading to the 1 Gbps plan and wanted to know if over ethernet, that router will handle a throughput of at least 80% of that speed. I can't find any speed specifications on that router. I don't want to go through the hassle of buying a new router and setting up bridge mode, by going back and forth with Airtel's CS. Just want to use the one router.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Since your current 300 Mbps plan is working fine over ethernet, your router ethernet ports should be Gigabit ports and hence 1 Gbps plan should work well over ethernet.

How much were you paying for the 300MBPS plan before and how much are you going to pay now for the 1GBPS plan? Please tell including GST.
In kolkata, internet is way costlier, compared to North and South India. For 300 Mbps, I was paying 1780 (with tax), 1 Gbps is 4718 (with tax)

You are eligible for new airtel 1 gbps router also . Please ask them to upgrade. That router comes only with 1 gbps plan and it’s free
Could you tell which is the router they provide for the 1gbps plan please, and do we get to keep them or return when closing connection? Guessing might be one of the higher end TPLink routers.

1. No Idea about the return policy.
2. Nah, Airtel doesn't splurge on the good stuff like ACT. This is the one they give you - AOT-5221ZY

It's a WiFi 6-enabled router. WLAN coverage is excellent. I get full signal in all corners of my apartment. It's a shitty router for wireless high-speed downloading, at anything more than 2m away from it (as the speed drops otherwise), even though signal strength is 100%. For me, my main gaming/heavy downloads are over ethernet, which is giving me full Gigabit speeds, so doesn't bother me. Only my TVs + laptops + phones are connected to WLAN.

10 years ago I closed my connection, and they asked for their shitty router back. I can't imagine them letting us keep any item.

In 2009 I closed my Airtel Internet Connection and returned their router also by going to their Head Office and got an acknowledge receipt in return but they kept on sending me Bills for an year and later on in 2010, they threatened me with court case. Then my father along with his classmate who was a High Court lawyer attended the court and put forward the cancellation request, router acknowledgement receipt and all bills they sent me. The District Sessions Court of Hyderabad told Airtel to pay us compensation for the mental torture but they said that they will withdraw their complaint and told the court that I dont need to pay anything.
