Front loading or top loading washing machine?

What difference is there between a 10kg front loader and a 7kg one?
Depends on the brand.

An LG 7kg is certainly smaller in volume than an 8kg LG whose volume will be the same as a 10 kg LG. Motor being more powerful and possibly the 10kg may have additional features.

But the volume increases with a 11kg LG.
I think only the motor is a bit more powerful. And maybe bearing are better. What else?

The machine is the same size, and so is the tub. It's not like one can put more clothes in 10kg model as compared to 7kg.
If the volume is the same for the brand concerned.

And I've used this logic to recommend an 8kg LG over a 10kg of similar volume.

Going even further by suggesting a base model over one with wifi say. I've recommended a model one step up because the UI was better and it claimed it was gentler on clothes due to its AI that had a bank of over 20k cycles to tweak from based on input parameters of weight and selected fabric type. For a little more than base you could get these more future proof features.

Despite the tinted front door :bored:
My 7 kg machine realistically can wash 3-4 kg of clothes (not talking heavy bedding). If I stuff more clothes, the washing time increases and/or quality goes down. How much I can wash is not limited by the KGs mentioned by the maker but by the volume of the tub.
Absolutely. The volume angle has been my driving argument of which 'weight' category to go for since day 1.

What you're not saying is the volume of your 7kg Samsung is similar if not slightly larger than an 8kg LG and is cheaper to boot.

Right? :)

Well, that's a different argument.

I guess bigger machines don't follow European standard EN 60456. This standard limits our machines. They have to fit them all under a kitchen countertop.

Well, not just the LG, the following quoted expensive Bosch 10kg machine has 70L volumetric capacity which is the same as mine with 7kg capacity.

Go for Bosch Washer/ Dryer Combo.

Friend recently got this and he strongly recommends it.

I think machines with a higher capacity but with the same 70L tub are just marketing tricks.

It will fit under a kitchen counter top if the height is 60cm.

Bigger capacity LG's may not. But those are more American sized and were never meant to go under a countertop.

Which Bosch?

You mean 85cm?

Bigger capacity machines are counted as commercial models. That's why they don't fit the 85 cm height limit.

Which Bosch?

What is the brand and model# of the machine?

What brand of detergent are you using?

Links to both would be helpful
i have this washing machine samsung top load only 2 months old and use surf excel matic top load , also its been asking me to clean tub what should i do as it is not that dirty from the inside(its new) how should i proceed without much hassle can you link any cleaning tablet that i can just put in the washer and use the tub clean mode.

Just run the eco tub clea cycle with nothing in the tub. No product.

That depends on how this cycle operates.

With Samsung front loaders after around five minutes the entire wash is dumped meaning any cleaning products would also be flushed out before they had any chance to take effect.

Is that the case with this top loader as well?

So pay attention when you run the tubclean program and tell us WHEN the water in the entire tub is emptied?

Right
This is a washer /dryer model. So why are you comparing your washer only model with it?

Volume may be similar but the dryer feature will be needed by some.

and about my previous query for white thing sticking on clothes?

I was talking about washing volume. Doesn't matter if machine has a dryer or not.

Realistic washing capacity isn't more than 3-4 kgs regardless of what the maker claims.

Oh that I agree with.

I got into an argument with a Brit washer enthusiast over this point. He insisted his LG machine could handle 8kg ofclothes as that's what his body weight scale indicated.

I told him his bodyweight scale wasn't accurate for a load this light and that he needed something like a luggage scale but the bugger wouldn't agree.

I pointed out that a so called washer enthusiast shouldn't be making rookie mistakes like this and given the views at that point none of his bloody subscribers noticed either.

I'm very direct with these guys because they ought to know better. It's real cool you can assemble and dissemble the machine and point out all the minutiae but your basic knowledge is whack so effing learn. Very fixed mindsets these buggers have that I just love to attack.

@blr_p : Need your opinion on something...

I ordered Tide Washing Machine Liquid but made a mistake while placing the order and got the top load variant but my washing machine is a front load. Can I occasionally use it (I mainly use Ariel liquid) in my front load machine or will I run into problems?

You can try but it will foam more than the front load variant. This means cleaning will be compromised as the extra foam cusions the clothes thereby reducing the wash action.

That's the theory. Why don't you try it and tell us what differences you observed.

Alternatively why don't you just exchange it for the front load version?

Thank you for all the valuable information you have shared. It has helped me greatly.

I have found the following to have the largest drum volume among all available machines (lg, samsung, bosch, croma)..
1. bosch WOI105B0IN (TL 10kg) 76L (dia 50 ht 39)
And maybe
2. LG FHP1413Z7M (FL 13kg) 80L (dia51 ht39) - this one extrapolated from the 11kg FL drum and machine dimensions as i didnt have access to a floor model.. i maybe off.

Would you know of anything bigger available in india?
Anyone here using either of these, can you tell me which of these may be better at handling occasional/frequent overloading? (volume wise. Will not be exceeding weight).

My current washing machine, whirlpool 360 bloomwash TL 8kg, is 56L (43cm dia 38cm ht). Bought in 2011, still running, but over the years went through few repairs- mostly because of careless usage. I have alwayys run it the same way- weekly once. with 100% volume filled. My clothes are only lightly soiled, perhaps that is why i am able to manage this way.
After reading here i know i shd be loading to 1/2 or atleast 2/3rds.
So, hoping to find the largest drum, so i neednt overload. For the sake of the machine and clothes.

Why aren't you considering a normal 7-8 kg model? You can load the machine every other day.

Only washer dryer models by LG

FHD2112STB (21/12kg)
FHD1508STB (15/8kg)

No machine is good at frequent overloading. Overloading destroys machines. Size the machine to your requirement.

My LG of 9 yrs is of similar volume. Two thirds max fill using the hand under top of gasket and top of clothes as a guide to maximum loading.

Not using the top spin speed but one step lower.

No problems at all.

The hand rule fills it around two thirds.

Less stress on the machine and better wash action.

I had posted some videos a few pages back showing how to spot overloading at run time.

As suggested you can run the machine one more time instead of only once a week.
