I am looking to add another 4 TB drive to my PC but there are just too many now. Earlier there were like 2 major brands and both had 7200 RPM for desktop HDDs.

Can someone please explain in detail, the difference between Seagate Skyhawk Surveillance and Barracuda? The other variants are too costly. Looking to get a robust drive as my data is valuable.
This drive will be used for data storage mainly as I use SSDs for C drive and projects.

There are still 2 major brands - Seagate and WD.

You would be better off looking for CMR drives (which are faster than SMR drives), instead of 7200 rpm.
The WD Purple 4TB is CMR 5400 rpm. You can double check the model code on WD's site since they are more transparent about CMR/SMR these days.

The Seagate Barracuda will definitely be SMR. The Skyhawk might be CMR depending on model code.
