Finally some practical use of AI, detecting animal emotions

Researchers are developing AI to decode animal emotions, enhancing our understanding of their pain and distress. The Intellipig system alerts farmers to pigs' emotional states through facial analysis. Meanwhile, a team at the University of Haifa is training AI to recognize discomfort in dogs, leveraging shared facial movements with humans. Notably, a researcher from the University of São Paulo achieved an 88% success rate by analyzing horses' facial expressions pre- and post-surgery, allowing the AI to autonomously identify pain indicators. These advancements could revolutionize animal welfare and farming practices.

Do you think AI can transform our interactions with animals in the future?

Seems a bit gimmicky to me, are animals even expressive enough from their faces to show emotions? What is the complexity of their emotions? There are so many question marks I have before I can even understand what they're trying to do
