AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU is reportedly experiencing widespread crashing/failure incidents, and multiple Redditors claim that the problem is more persistent with ASRock motherboards. After recent reports of AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D has been a victim of getting burnt out, and now, based on a mega thread on the ASRock subreddit, it is claimed that the markets are seeing an "abnormal" number of Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs are seeing failure on user systems, and it seems like the problem is more common with ASRock motherboards, although not exclusive to it.

Moderators over the subreddit have managed to get a grip on what is happening with 9800X3D CPUs, and according to them, either the SKUs are being on dead on arrival, or dying out after a few hours or days/weeks of use, which means that anyone can experience this issue, only a matter of time for now. Interestingly, the reason behind this issue isn't known at all. Until now, it has been claimed that over forty Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs have become victims of the problem, with four non-X3D processors included in the list as well, showing that the issue might be common with Zen 5 CPUs, although this isn't confirmed for now. For now, users who are experiencing this problem are suggested to update their BIOS to the latest versions by their respective manufacturer, and given that the problem is more familiar with ASRock boards, the firm has already released a new BIOS version 3.20, addressing the issue.

For now, AMD has acknowledged the problem, but Team Red has yet to make an official statement. It isn't confirmed whether the DOA issue exists for many SKUs in the market, but the affected units are indeed in decent numbers, suggesting that it might increase further. Team Red is only entertaining RMA requests in case your 9800X3D CPU fails, so make sure to avail yourself of it in case you are a victim of this issue.

It has not been a good start to 2025 for tech, from the exorbitant GPU prices, missing ROPs to this now, it's honestly kinda depressing atp. Hope that the 9070 launch is going to turn things around a bit.

This is concerning, already news with RTX 50 series QA issues. Just hope this does not become the norm.
Similar things happened with the 7000x3d CPUs where they were burning due to too much current through the contact pins.

ASRock addresses Ryzen 9000 boot issues with new BIOS for A620, B650, B850 and X870 motherboards

ASRock is addressing recent reports about issues with Ryzen 9000 CPUs on their latest motherboards. The company has now released a new BIOS which is said to address unexpected boot issues reported by users.

We will release an official statement with more details later, but since there is a lot of misinformation being spread, here is a quick note! The bottom line is that it is not broken. It is just that some CPUs do not start due to memory compatibility issues. There are many reports of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D suddenly breaking. At least 40 cases have occurred, mainly in ASRock motherboard environments.

ASRock has updates for many A620, B650, and X670 motherboards. There are only two B650 motherboards mentioned here.

So basically not every dead CPU is actually a dead CPU. If you experience issues, please first update your BIOS to 3.20 and see if this fixes the issue. If not, file an RMA claim with AMD.
