ACT Fibernet silently cuts FUP from 3300GB to 1500GB

3300 gb, i ran through it in a few days this month, had to buy more data
Just out of curiosity, what is your usage like, that caused you to run through 3.3 TB in a few days?

I have a 1 Gbps connection (not ACT), and my monthly usage is usually around 2-3TB (including games, entertainment, and work) with 5 other household devices connected.

I always thought no man had the time to burn through 3300GB a month, unless he was running a server farm or streaming 24/7.
But hey, there are legends on techenclave.

usually the other person would be right but this time it was backups with proxmox VE and proxmox backup server.

basically the PVE backups of a single vm failed enough times and the retries ran through all my data. I need to buy another minipc with a pair of drives to store them now, haha.

normally i don't touch the 3.3 TB limit though, just that this month I moved all my vms off of hetzner to on top of my fridge so... :P

Come on! 1hr of good 4k video with HDR and Dolby 5.1 at 640kbps with multiple audio streams is about 5GB. One season of a series is 40GB easily. Add a couple of steam games like Doom that's 150GB. Add a couple of other users at home streaming at 4k, and a couple of computers (Say a couple of Macs and a couple of failed updates), you are easily looking at 200GB a day.

There are people I know (ahem ahem), who don't have laptops, but have three PCs (Macs and Windows) and tablets (updates on those too) who've seen 200GB downloads a day more than they can count on all digits, at least in the last two quarters.

We haven't even counted the other stuff like msdn isos, playing around with several flavours of linux, and what not!

Slight OT: I noticed ACT (Bangalore) has converted their plans to unlimited ones. This is easy to miss if you don't use ACT app and pay bills directly on their website or UPI apps. They have continued to keep existing customers on older-expensive plans unless you use the app. Any idea when this shift to new UL plans happen?

If you are on a monthly plan, call them up and ask, they are usually pretty straightforward. If nothing works, disconnect and get a new connection or threaten disconnection.

ACT Nellore all plans show Unlimited in their website but in the app the user uses they are showing 1500GB limit. When I go to Nellore I want to clarify this once.

Just see for all plans right from basic plan they are showing unlimited in the website while I pay Rs.706 for 60 MBPS every month as this is enough for my parents.

And they will keep adding the bill or penalties right !!!

Edit: I am planning to get act net actually..
If you have Excitel in your area take it.

ACT is good in providing speeds according to the needs of ages of people & downtime is also less but their pricing is bullshit and their policies are like snakes tongue.
Like I showed in my earlier post they won't give unlimited FUP but if you cross the limit that they show on their app they will ask you to move to next big plan.

Excitel is in my area, but in the past I heard many issues with excitel. That too they need security deposit for router and need to take min 3 months plan.

Act fibernet, there is 1075+gst for 300 mbps plan. they said whatever months I take, no installation charges. With 3 months plan, they give archer c5 router.
Besides that, they give cat 6 cable from box to home.

I am actually using jiofiber at present, 999+gst for 150mbps.

Do NOT go for Excitel. It is BEYOND BS. You will disconnect it the day you get it, lol. Stick with a known provider based on your own preference. ACT also provides good routers, BTW. With their 1 Gbps connection, they provide a TP Link AX1500. Airtel, on the other hand, provides some random Chinese one, which can't even maintain a channel width of 160 Hz half the time.

FWIW, I'm a very happy ACT customer.

No spam, no upselling. The only email I get is 1 month prior to plan expiry.

I wish I had true unlimited bandwidth but okay.

I also wish they had better customer service response. (Their's is good enough for basic customers, but sometimes for power users, getting through to an actual engineer is a little difficult)

99% uptime. Extremely good routing and consistent speeds. I live in Chennai fwiw.

IPv6 seems to be rolling out now.

No need to use their router with shitty locked firmware. Gives me either 12+2 months free+ locked router or 12+3 months and I can use my own router.

Pricing wise, the only cheaper plan is from BSNL which also has a higher data cap. The rest of them including Airtel, Jio are all expensive.

Oh and the best part, these guys actually set up battery packs at their upstream switches if you complain about internet loss during a power cut.

The one shady thing they pulled was the 1500 GB trick in the middle of my plan, but this was quickly reversed.

They mentioned something called zippy. Is it installed in our router or something?

I don't use their equipment. I use my own router.

A quick google search shows that Zippy is "WiFi advisor". I suspect this is more of an app feature than a router feature.

By locked firmware, I meant the ability to turn off TR-069, manipulate DNS records etc. (Most ISPs in my city are notorious for not even providing login details)

ACT being copper based allows me to use a router directly without having the need for an ONT/dependence on ISP equipment.
