ACT Fibernet silently cuts FUP from 3300GB to 1500GB

I am actually using jiofiber at present, 999+gst for 150mbps.

When I was in Hyderabad (east) BSNL was laying fibre optic cables in my apartments vicinity and I asked them who is it for. I thought Jio or Airtel maybe but I came to know that it's BSNL I asked them about the plans they told me if I take 3 months plan then they will give free Dual Band ONT router and I took it but after 3 months I changed the payment schedule to 1 month. Now I am using the same router here also in TN in our Township. BSNL Hyderabad server side support guy I befriended said that BSNL started laying fibre optic cables since 1 year and also upgraded their servers to latest versions. I later heard from my wife that BSNL has invested 11,000 crores in upgrading their existing infrastructure regarding FTTH across the country. Even their downtime is less these days compared with before. If any downtime occurs also it will come back online within 20 mins here or in Hyderabad.

I experienced bsnl already. I got it after covid first lockdown.
The speed was good enough, but plans were too jumbled. They keep changing plans for some reason.
The local vendor (not bsnl employees) was always very polite and always available on call to resolve the issues.
There were issues but rare. Most of the time their issues were, someone cutting their cables, or them upgrading.
I got some basic router form them but got my own router bridged.
I shifted bcz Airtel's plan seemed better back then. Even disconnection with bsnl was straight forward and fast.

A quick google search shows that Zippy is "WiFi advisor". I suspect this is more of an app feature than a router feature.

By locked firmware, I meant the ability to turn off TR-069, manipulate DNS records etc. (Most ISPs in my city are notorious for not even providing login details)

ACT being copper based allows me to use a router directly without having the need for an ONT/dependence on ISP equipment.

But for me when I was in Hyderabad BSNL fellows gave me the Dual Band ONT Router and connected it in my home and went away. Then I used to login to the router and change the DNS. Even I used to call the BSNL Server side fellow to my home to help me and he used to come and do the adjustments.
But now since Oct, 2023 onwards when I came to this Township BSNL local office asked for employees id and house allotment copy and when laying the line for my apartment they took my ONT router to their office and came back with it later on and installed the FTTH connection. After a month while I was trying to login into router , it is always saying that bad password cannot login.

What happened to my ONT router and why cannot I now login into router settings? What could be the problem?

They didn't give me dual band ot, probably bcz it was 100mbps connection.

Otoh, they must have installed custom firmware or changed the password from their end to keep things locked.
Even I had to call the local vendor guy to get the router's password and he gave me.

So we can call any local vendor guy like PC repair man to change the router password right?
Then I will call tomorrow itself.

Not any person, but the local cable operator or BSNL, whoever gave you the connection. It's quite possible that they just updated to a newer firmware which comes with non-default passwords. I think if you ask them, they will provide it.

Okay. I thought any PC Repair person is enough to give me the password. So even updating to a newer firware gives facilities like enabling non-default passwords? I don't know about this until now. Thanks. I will call the BSNL service man and ask him about the router password or ask him to show me how to login into the router settings once.

@bssunilreddy Due to many exploits targeting such routers running the publicly known default passwords, most operators install custom firmware which changes the password to a customised one for the operator or based on the mac address or serial of the device. For example, I got a Netlink device as part of my Kerala Vision (an ISP in Kerala, they were running a promotion so the device was free) connection and the default login was root/Root@Kvblcpe. This is the exact same device (hardware wise) used by a lot of ISPs and the default credential earlier was admin/stdONU101.

Thanks for clarifying my doubts.
BTW My present ONT Router also has these below ones as default credentials: admin/stdONU101. I was getting the below error as in the screenshot when I login into the router.
Now I think it's changed by custom firmware so need to ask the BSNL service man for changed username and password. Today I will call him and ask him to show me login into the router.

My neighbor has good feedback and he is still using it. He has 100mbps connection but said they gave him cat 5 cable.

For just 75 more (999 is what I'm paying for jio 150mbps), 300mbps plan from act seems tempting.
 
Since I don't use OTTs at all, I go for the pure internet plan where I get 2 months extra. 12 months for the price of 10.
@Ssreek had some issue with the connectivity today, and they resolved it pretty quickly. The mail came in about 30 mins after the issue was resolved.

Depending on where you are, YMMV.

meh, if you have an OLED or better, you need remuxes for the best experience, period. an average 2160p remux is anywhere between 60-90gb, a single 2160p dv/hdr10 tv episode is from 6-10gb, you can do the math from here.
 
This FUP shit is the reason why I switched from Airtel to ACT after being Airtel customer for a decade. From last few months my broadband throughput will be reduced to 1mbps after just 2 days in billing cycle, their customer care says that I have used all my allocated data (the whole 3.3tb in 2 days, that too in a home connection).

when asked where have I have used it, they will have not answer, their app too doesn't have option to check my data usage on broadband. So I am supposed to take their word for it without any proof and run 1mbps internet for the rest of 28 days, without any other option.

Happened for 3 months without any answer from them. I switched to ACT and now my internet hardly reached 2tb in a month. Their app too shows per day usage of broadband data so I can keep a track on it.

Yeah, data tracking is a pain in the ass with Airtel. That's why I still use the good ol' network meter gadget so that I can keep track.

that was not my problem though. I am 100% sure that I have not used 3.3tb of data in 2 days. I run openwrt and it keeps track of data usage on wan port. The problem was that they won't listen.

It's not something physical. It was a widget-type system that was introduced with Vista and discontinued with Windows 8. You can still manually install it.
