CPU/Mobo Lian-Li Lancool 207 Compact ATX Case - Opinions

I'm currently have a M-ATX setup with a ROG Z370-G mobo, Intel 8700K in a Fractal Design Define C Mini case. Now planning to upgrade the PC and the matx motherboard options are practically non existent o_O the only mobo I like is X670E Gene and it is OOS. By the looks of it it is highly unlikely that Asus is going to make a X870 Gene. The ITX options have their own quirks and I also don't want to go the SFF route. Only remaining options are some cheap B760 and B650 boards with low end VRMs.

I also have a height and depth constraint of <475mm as I prefer to keep my PC Case in a wooden shelf that has a vertical space of 500mm, same depth. So the Lian-Li Lancool 207 looks like a perfect case for my requirements. ATX mobo options are plenty and also satisfies my compactness requirement. The cooling performance is also top of the charts along with the ability to fit a Arctic LF III 360 in the top.

My preference for the 2024 Corsair RM1000x PSU is also compatible with the case (reading from others experience on reddit). Also I can spare even a few days of labour in dealing with cable management, so that is not an issue for me.

So please tell me your opinions on this and if I'm good to go.

Edit:
Looks like these are all similar height cases... Interesting

There are good B650M mobos with good VRMs. Heck the el cheapo MSI B650M Gaming WiFi at 10k is enough for gamers as it can handle 120-130W CPUs easily. I tested it myself on friend's 7600X rig with PBO enabled where 7600X was pulling 130W or so without VRM throttling for 10+ mins. I am not suggesting this mobo to you if you have the money but there are mATX mobos better than this one.

IMO X670E is a waste of money, can spend the extra money over B650 on something else for most budgets, unless your budget is unlimited. What specs are you looking at for the rig?

Not much idea about compact ATX cases as I just recommend people to go mATX route if they care about size. My general ATX suggestions are MSI 120A, Deepcool CG560 & Lancool 216. IMO 475mm requirement isn't too unrealistic. For mATX, can check CM 301 Elite, Lian Li DAN A3, Asus AP201 (might be OOS now).

For the case, you cannot go wrong with the Lancool 207. Plenty of ventilation and it is quite easy to build. Great support from Lian Li as well. As for the mobo, stick to ATX purely because of availability and ease of getting a replacement in case things go south.

Lancool 207 is mATX case (few mm smaller compare to 206) but due to its PSU placement on the front can accommodate ATX Mobo. I wonder if you can get replacement psu extension cable (same size ?) that was used to route the power connector to the back, feels like unnecessary hassle if it fails. There is a reason we have PSU at the back on all cases.
The cable management is mediocre, unless you use low profile flat cables as shown by GamerNexus review. It great for the budget mATX Build/minimal ATX Build with some caveats.

I have built 2 systems in Lancool 207 and only reason to not build in this case is if you want a backconnect motherboard build or you want to add lot of additional 2.5 or 2.5" storage.

You can safely ignore some rant by Steve from Gamers Nexus about the cable management. I have NZXT C1000 ATX 3.1 PSU with some stiff cables. Even though it took some thinking and planning,. I had no issues routing all cables properly. I even had Lian Li Hydroshift LCD 360mm aio in this same system which has gone for RMA due to one fan being defective on that unit. So I have Arctic Freezer 36 air cooler in the system at the moment and I in fact plan to keep it on as even all air cooled, its keeping my 265K under 80C all core workloads like Handbrake encodes and Blender and Cinebench 30 min stability tests.
At the same time case had no issues accommodating one of the thicker 360mm aios.

Its great case for ATX builds. If I had not planned to finally build a back connect setup, I would keep it myself.

I did replace the stock bottom fans with Sciflow 120mm and added 120mm argb sciflow at the back. Decent fans for the price.

Here are few pics for reference. I have no additional internal storage other than NVME drive. So I have used the bottom compartment to stash the ARGB and PWM fan hub there.

I would highly recommend you buy the optional filter. The fine mesh is not enough for Indian dusty conditions. I have just ordered one myself from mdcomputers who have that optional filter even though I have put the system for sale.

There is plenty of room to build a powerful system even with a big GPU. No issues with cable management, great airflow with flexibility of 360mm AIO even in this compact form factor with full ATX build. Reasonably priced.

Lian Li advertises it as mATX case everywhere. It's more of a compact ATX case.

It has a few flaws.

There is a clearance issue with the front panel USB header cable if the motherboard has a sideways input. The solution is to remove the bottom cable management clip.

It is difficult to lift and move the case because there isn't enough ground clearance to slide your fingers underneath and lift it. When putting the case down, you risk crushing your fingers.

The mesh panel has alignment issues. It's only a visual bug.

One of my front IO USB inputs does not work, and I don't have time to RMA it.

These issues are easy to overlook, as everything else about the case is practical and functional to keep high airflow without making noise.
