Direct x 12 0x887a0006 Error in Games

Hey everyone,

Has anyone here encountered the DirectX 12 error 0x887a0006 while gaming or running benchmarks? I've been facing this issue where games randomly crash or throw this error, especially when running under DX12.

Some of the latest titles where I’ve seen this happen include:

Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

A few other DX12-heavy games and even in some benchmark runs.

Things I’ve already tried:

Updated GPU drivers

Reinstalled DirectX

Windows fully updated

Stress tests show stable temps and performance

Still, the error shows up—mostly random crashes mid-game or during load screens.

Just wondering:

Has anyone else dealt with this specific error?

Did you manage to fix it?

Is it something we can solve ourselves or are we waiting on game devs or GPU driver updates?

Would really appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks!

Follow a step by step troubleshooting elimination method. A quick Google search shows that this error covers a broad range of issues relating to GPU, drivers maybe even insifficient admin privileges.

Start with your hardware. Log your temps and see if your GPU is overheating or thermal throttling.

Next up, use DDU and reinstall your GPU drivers.
Reinstall DirectX drivers as well.

Verify file integrity of your game launcher and the game itself.

Try running the games that crash with admin privileges.

Try 'em without frame gen/DLSS or any other experimental features.

See if the problem gets fixed at any step.

Update:
Thank you all for your valuable suggestions and input!

Just wanted to share a quick update—
I received a patch for Assassin’s Creed Shadows yesterday, and after applying it, I also enabled administrator privileges and tweaked a few DPI settings. That seemed to do the trick—no more crashes, and I was able to finish the entire game without any issues.

As for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, launching it with the DirectX 12 protocol worked perfectly. It’s running smooth now.

Appreciate everyone who took the time to reply and share their experiences. Thanks again!
