I'm planning to assemble a tankless RO purifier for home use. I found the following sites selling RO spares

Are they reliable, have any of you ordered from them?

Also Konvio Neer parts seem very popular on Amazon. Any experiences with them?
 
Piggybacking on this thread, when is it the right time to change the RO filters? I have not changed mine in almost 1.5 years and I checked the TDS the other day and it was 22, whereas the raw water was 350. Does it make sense to change the filters right now? Or should I just change the prefilter? If not, what is a good time-range and metric?

Usually our service guy checks up and changes it when its time..

Yeah, ours was under AMC too and he'd regularly come and change the filters. First he started off with the Aquaguard filters and then shifted to the local ones. I was just wondering if there is any metric to find out when the filters actually need to be changed? Service chaps would say they need to be changed on the regular, since it means more money for them.

Ah I see, thankfully my service guy doesn't loot us :p he is quite reasonable..
 
@sibot I used to change the ro membrane when the water took too long to refill. If water is not hard, then ro membrane lasts a long time. Also depends on the brand.

I would change the sediment and carbon filter regularly since they may have limited absorption capacity (I used to just flush the sediment snd carbon filter). Maybe change them yearly or earlier since they are cheap.

@rimgeaper filterkart.com is also quite popular. I haven't bought from them but have contacted them for some queries. They upload a lot of helpful videos on youtube as well.

@sibot you need to know the outflow TDS and operating pressure of a new cartridge to be used as baseline figures. When the RO cartridge is giving way due to prolonged use, the operating pressure and TDS will rise. You'll also notice low rejection rate. Get some pressure gauges installed during next service to get an idea about various filters' performance.

Your sediment filter may give you 6 months of trouble-free service but can get clogged within a day of muddy supply water. I use a transparent housing for this reason. And I use pressure gauge for the whole-house filter that is exposed to the elements. A transparent housing will give rise to mold growth in the sun.

+1 I follow the same method. The external sediment filter help prolong the life. Change it like once in 3~4 months with periodic clean up.

i will just share my experiences,
here the water can easily cross 400-450 tds mark.
the tds of 22 is too low imo. 50-150 range is normal range. (below 50 is when the water starts having the taste, then again it is also lies in the same range tds for the water one buys in bislari/jars. ngl below 50 tds never to quench my thirst.)

the ro filter i have has two sediment filter like tubes not 3.
i will just enlist all i know.
- change sediment filters when you see the output water (retentate) is getting dirty,color change (on avg lasted over 1.8yrs most touching 2yrs mark)
but end of sediment filter's life doesnt seem to affect the filtering time much
- membrane filter change when the speed of filtration or the amount of time taken time to fill tank is taking too long compared to normal timing (on avg mines lasted over 1.5yrs. but most lasted to 1.8yrs.)
- spun filter i change on 3 months basis (changing purposefully). hard water or whatever the reasons maybe.
my ro would have faults after a 6-7+ months, water pump failure or similar. many people and technician said to use those balls.
but i dont have that much time nor i want to get into another subscription model and i dont want kids near em.
so weekly or once in two weeks i clean the spun filter's case/housing , also helps in avoiding air bubbles in the filter housing while having a clean filter housing.
- spun filters can last a long but the troubles they bring along with age + dirty housing are annoying to find n fix easily and can make dmg worse.
- but no issues seen after the 3 or so month old change in spun filters trick been working all machinery perfectly since 2018.
- here spun filters cost 40-50rs. never used more than 4 in a year.
