You are gravely mistaken if you think that Apple would replace a proprietary dock connector with a standardized connector. Why do you think Apple would repeatedly implement that proprietary dock connector when USB was already available? They are never going to put a standard connector on any on...

@alpha17......i am living in a world where a 30 pin dock connector wire with usb is much cheaper to make than a usb 3.0 cable for the portable hdd....trust me on tat as i know exact production cost of each of these...... may b they don't have a wide enough installed base... but thunderbolt...

i believe ssd already can access data lot faster than usb 3.0 can support... lacie soon coming up with thunderbolt enabled drives... also in raid u need even more bandwidth.... n with intel behind it... don't c it going same way as esata or firewire.... n who knows may b next ipad comes with...

best way to get good quality product is to go n buy exactly what you want in its original packing... the moment u let these guys build a pc for u... thr won't b evan a slight hesitation on their part to change the parts... better buy off the shelf the piece they have n build it on ur own... as...
