I agree FB has been becoming too much boring these days but i think there is not a even single social networking site which can give a fight to facebook right now.
I am not much sure about the price range but i can say that HP mini can be a good option for you.
I had experienced it few days back and the design was pretty cool with the apps as well.
Dell indeed is a worth brand to go for but there has been some sound problem with Dell. The sound has been pretty low and one need to have an external sound system to experience good sound quality.
