where did you connect the power? the ups has 4 surge+battery and 1 only surge sockets. surge socket does not provide battery. Check if you are using correct socket, if yes. given m720q is a very low power device ups is not able to provide backup you may need to change the battery.

Most of the UPS's have 12ah or 9ah batteries. These are designed to provide you quick 2-3 mins to close safely and shutdown. I have 1500VA APC ups but it gives hardly 5 mins backup with 600w load. But this is only once, if you use up that 5 mins it will not provide backup if the power goes again...
