Hybrid should be fine. My Cavalli EHHA Rev A (another hybrid) paired really good with the LCD2.

Go with solid state with the Hifimans instead of tube. Planars sound kinda soft on tubes unless the OI is low.

    DT990 Upgrades

If you can handle an overall bright tone, $250 is a good price. Ak7XX - I haven't heard it but the measurements suggest it to be decent headphone.

    DT990 Upgrades

Thats because 99% of them are paired with crapola like the hugo/mojo or the chi-fi stuff. If you care for midrange even one bit, hifimans are just bad at it.

    DT990 Upgrades

Nopes, the measurements seem to confirm my views. The mid range is beyond terrible on the HE400. LCD2 is in a different class all together. Recently heard the HE400i and HE400s as well. Better than HE400 but still not worth the money. If you plan to go for LCD2, look for the old version...

    DT990 Upgrades

Whatever you do, don't buy the HE400. Those were my worst audio purchases. Distorted mids , peaky/grainy treble. Bass was good but otherwise overall just bad sounding.

    DT990 Upgrades

Planars are not necessarily an upgrade over dynamics. Yes, planars are generally smoother and have less bass distortion compared to dynamics, i think HD650 despite being a decade old still beats Hifiman HE6/HE400i/HE400s and Audeze LCD2/x when it comes to macrodynamicd, microdynamics and...

    IEMs under 1k??

With stock tips the Philips is bass heavy and a little peaky in lower treble @ 4-6KHZ (although still very enjoyable considering they have much lesser issues than most budget IEMs). I've tried several tips with them and settled down with the Pana HJE125 medium tips. The bass extends low and...

    IEMs under 1k??

Philips SHE3590 While far prom perfect , overall better balanced than Piston3, ES18, Pana HJE120/125, Cowon EM1 (EM1 in particular sounds just pathetic)If you are into earbuds I'd suggest VE Monk Plus ($5) and Auglamour RX1 ($22 and a giant killer)

    Random DAC/Amp Thread!!

Mojo sounds decent, at least better than all other portable solutions I've heard (Resonessence Concero, Chord Hugo, Entire Fiio line, O2/ODAC, Audeze Deckard). Geek Out V2 sounds comparable but has treble glare. The Mojo sounds little dark but no harshness at all. While ample loud with every...
