Take a MicroUSB to USB(female) cable. Then connect the MicroUSB connector to your phone(i.e the charging port) and connect your Pendrive to the female USB connector. That's it!

Well once my friend has tried connecting his Pendrive to my XU and it was detected and displaying its contents, so yea it does work!

I haven't used that feature anyway till date because I am satisfied with my battery life really. I feel Sony has done really a great job with ICS when it comes to battery and smoothness but I feel they can up the overall performance, especially when it comes to launching apps.

Err...you sure it's not there Settings -> Power Management -> Extended Standby Mode - - - Updated - - - Oh I see.

Go to Settings -> Power Management -> Tick Extended Standby Mode

Keep a watch on the processes running in the background and RAM usage, some unwanted processes may be causing the lag. Try a factory reset before opting for Custom ROM.

What battery life are you getting now? Display on time?

Really? J isn't similar to any of the Sony phones in that range. P is way better than J in just about every possible way.
