I bought a VU TV after my Plasma died. Haven't checked others. VU TV is ok, but I've been using it only in the last week, so can't recommend wholeheartedly.

Plasmas are completely phased out. Brands like LG/Sony would definitely be better when it comes to picture quality. Buying a VU TV depends on how much you are willing to compromise. If possible take a demo of all the TVs and decide.

Don't buy a Plasma. They are not produced anymore and you won't get spares in case of a failure. VU TV is quite good, but support is a question.

There are no Plasma's produced anymore. Whatever you find would be a left over stock. My LG Plasma conked off and LG simply said they don't have any spare panels to replace.

Why would you go for an internal sound card when you have a top of the line AV receiver? If you are using an entry/mid-level AVR, then a pre-pro (sound card) might give better output. But AX-840 has a lot of power and offloading the processing part doesn't make a big difference, I think.

Most probably it might be due to header compression in the mkv file. Use Mkvinfo to find if the MKV has header compression. You can fix this using mkvtoolnix then.
