AFAIK data gets stored as 0s and 1s. And these recovery tools will try to recover it when others fail, correct me if wrong. I was able to successfully read data(not all, but some) using few recovery tools from few CDs when normal methods failed

Yeah recently my opinion has changed on having latest version of android on my device. I own a nexus 5, wife uses grand duos/xperia mini(this has andriod 2.1). I couldnt even wait till Andriod L OTA, so flashed my phone, tried it, didnt like it as the apps I use are not compatible at that time...

is the andriod version that big a factor?? I do like to have latest version on my phone, but my wife doesnt care at all. All she needs is whatsapp/facebook working without lag. I believe thats what a normal user wants, to have their day to day apps working without issues.
