What OS (or multi boot?) are you using? Check the bootloader supports SB - like me for example - misconfigured GRUB can maybe show the boot menu but fail to load OS - not exactly your same issue. Other option - I wonder if its something to do with the video cable (HDMI or DP) security feature...
