Indian companies launch campaign to name next Android ver: ‘Ladoo’

Laddoo is a rubbish name. Wait for the right alphabet, but choose a better name. The head of Android and his boss are both Indians, and I am sure there are plenty of Indian developers in the Android team, so I won't expect much opposition if the name is right. Also, bad idea to pitch this on...

    31-40k Convertible for road warri@r ?

Wait for the 8.1 convertibles coming in the next month or two. Yoga 11 may seem like a decent device but you will realize the underwhelming performance of Tegra 3 upon regular usage. Thing is, the situation with Haswell, Bay Trail and Temash is that ARM no longer makes much sense for Windows...

    Windows 8 - Feedback thread

Windows 8.1 is an update, not an upgrade. What that means is you can go ahead and buy vanilla Windows 8 SKUs, you will get the 8.1 update free. Worth trying the Windows 8.1 Preview, but I have found it has some bugs, as should be expected of unfinished preview/beta software. Also, remember...

90K+ I need something powerful, lightweight and awesome.

If budget is no constraint, as of now, it's an easy choice to wait for Precision M3800. You could also wait for Haswell refreshes of Macbook Pro with RD / Asus Zenbook 15 / XPS 15 / Samsung Ativ Book 8, but it is important to note those are consumer laptops and not professional workstations -...

News Cheaper iPhone leaks again with FCC markings, Launch In September?

Indeed, looks almost identical to Lumia 620, just a different aspect ratio. The colour choices are the same too.

The new Nexus 7 from Google and Asus, heading to India 'soon'

It's confusing branding but Nexus 7 actually has a S4 Pro from the Snapdragon 600 family with Krait 300 cores. So an underclocked 600. While Nexus 4 was from the S4 family with Krait 200 cores. Not too optimistic about Nexus and India release though things can only get better.

71-90K Sony Pro 13 Vs Macbook Air 13

You can't judge display quality off a picture! I don't personally own a Vaio Pro anyway. Nevertheless, you can check out an analysis of the Vaio Pro 13's display here: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/Sony-Vaio-Pro-13.htm. The old S7 has a great display too, no doubt, and the 2560x1440...

71-90K Sony Pro 13 Vs Macbook Air 13

Yes, I suspect the same. The Vaio Pro 13 has a superb screen. It is an IPS panel so it has 178 degree viewing angles by definition. Must be a misunderstanding somewhere.

51-70k Right time to buy an Ultrabook?

I agree with rdst, best to see how the X240 or T440S turn out. These <18mm ultrabooks simply cannot beat a real Thinkpad keyboard. Yoga is pretty good but it still lacks the key travel of X230 which might be the best keyboard out there for a laptop weighing under 2 Kg. I know Thinkpad purists...

71-90K Sony Pro 13 Vs Macbook Air 13

Both are good choices in their own right, it's going to come down to personal preference. The first thing you will notice is that Vaio Pro is much lighter. It is really night and day. The Vaio Pro has a far superior display. Much better contrast ratio, much wider colour gamut and better...

    Android-WP updates scene

Yes, it is pretty good now and on par with the iOS/Android versions technically. But it can be better still, the thing that I really want is integration with the People hub. I do all my messaging/communication from there. It is unfortunate that most app developers are stuck in iOS/Android...

Yes, installed it on my 8X. Haven't got it on my 8S though.

    Windows 8.1 Preview Feedback

One of the most amazing things about the Windows 8's new interface was it's chromeless nature, made possible by unified charms. With Windows 8.1 they are plopping up search boxes and stuff inside apps which just makes them more cluttered. I am amazed that people couldn't grasp such a simple...

Which notebook compares to 13" MacBook Air 2013 ?

The lack of touch in this case counts as a major dealbreaker, in the OS or otherwise. As for touchpads, it depends on the machine. I totally agree that Macbook Air has one of the best touchpads, better than almost all Windows laptops, but there are Windows laptops with great ones too. Such as...

Which notebook compares to 13" MacBook Air 2013 ?

But that's the whole point, why compromise with "not so bad"? The difference is night and day, and it's not just the resolution like I mentioned before. As for touchscreen, that is completely inaccurate. The same Gorilla Glass tech used in phones is present in touch laptops, and think about...

Which notebook compares to 13" MacBook Air 2013 ?

Checked out a Vaio Pro 11 today evening. The thing is insanely light. It is almost scary how light it is, feels like a tablet rather than a laptop. The screen is brilliant too and the touchscreen is very responsive. Keyboard was a bit shallow, and of course the carbon fibre is a matter of...

Which notebook compares to 13" MacBook Air 2013 ?

It's not bad like the crap you get in $500 laptops, but once you are used to at least 1920x1080 IPS panels it appears unacceptably mediocre for a $1000+ product. It's not just resolution, it is a 6-bit TN panel. Viewing angles aren't great, and it only covers 65% sRGB so colours are way off. It...

    Android-WP updates scene

Sync is built in to Windows Phone. It is seamless and has options to sync a lot of things. For example, when you buy a new phone and login to your Microsoft account, your entire app list pops up, including paid apps. All your accounts are set up and ready to go. The only thing that is different...

    Android-WP updates scene

I would say it is unfair to say updates on Windows Phone are at a slow pace. Since Android shipped 4.0 the Windows Phone team have rewritten the entire OS from scratch based on a new kernel, released two GDRs since then. Compare the upgrade from Android 4.0 to 4.2 or iOS 5 to 6 and then Windows...

    Android-WP updates scene

I stayed away from WP7 myself and I totally understand your disappointment. The thing though is that it is in the past and a one-off thing moving to Windows NT kernel. WP7 was clearly a time-to-market thing and WP8 is the real version 1. It sucks, but it's just being realistic. Now that...
