Graphic Cards Nvidia cards more popular for playing Half-Life 2

@daviescool, you should have started worrying seriously if your 6800GT *wasn't* working great with HL2! That card can handle any game you care to throw at it and not sweat. @Whiplasher, what you say is true, not many people will conclude nVidia's leadership by looking at the marketshare of...

Graphic Cards Nvidia cards more popular for playing Half-Life 2

What about now? The 6600GT simply rules the mid-end market, with no ATI product in the same price range coming close performance wise. So if the promotion was targeted specifically at the 9800/9600 cards, ATI may have achieved their goal but in the overall scenario they have lost heavily. If...

    Strange problem in FireFox 1.0.1

Hey, that worked for me too. Cleared everything and we are back in business. Now it takes a little more time whenever a new address is typed, the status bar displays "Looking up www.whatever.com" and then connects. But at least it is connecting. Maybe the IP address table was screwed. Is there...

    Strange problem in FireFox 1.0.1

This problem started a day or two ago. I am at my wits end. 1. I run FireFox and type in an URL (say www.google.com) 2. After sometime FireFox says "Site could not be found. Check name and try again" 3. I open IE6 and type the same URL. Site opens, no problems. 4. I Alt-Tab to FireFox and try...

Graphic Cards Nvidia cards more popular for playing Half-Life 2

Considering that I finished playing Doom 3 on a GF4Ti4200 with 256 MB RAM, you should be able to play HL2 with a FX5200 and 256MB RAM without any problems. OK, the frame rates may not be in the 70s, but if you get 25-30 fps at any setting it would be eminently playable. HL2 doesn't seem to tax...

    Graphic Cards 6600 NONGT rocks

That is only to be expected, considering that almost all the members of that "certain site of yore" have migrated here. Ah, this thread is really getting off topic.

Graphic Cards Nvidia cards more popular for playing Half-Life 2

I am one of the 6600GT guys, although whether my card was counted on the steam site I am not sure. Anyone here on TA playing HL2 on a low end card? Say a MX440? That seems to be the most popular card by far.

Graphic Cards Nvidia cards more popular for playing Half-Life 2

I don't know how you are equating a GF2 to a GF4. I have (or had) both the GF2 and the GF4 and the performance difference was simply too huge to call them even similar cards, forget "same". Could you come up with some kind of an explanation for your statement? And why do you think the survey...

    Guide to A64 Ocing

That is a good find, mate. I am not much of an overclocking fan but that guide may just make a try a little bit. I have an A64 3000+ S754 in an ASUS K8N-E Deluxe and that board comes with AI overclocking, but this guide goes well beyond that. Whoever that guy is, he writes some good stuff.

Graphic Cards Nvidia cards more popular for playing Half-Life 2

I just found this amazing piece of news. Don't know if this has been posted before, but head over to: The Inquirer or for the horse's mouth: The official Valve site Man, after ATI's huge investment in HL2 and the kind of promos that are visible everywhere on the web, this must come as a...

    Mysterious Microsoft site

Well, maybe Microsoft is getting into the hardware business. That looks like a precursor ad for a PC, styled like an Apple perhaps. IE7 surely is not "inspired" and what is "fun" about it?

Graphic Cards Can't read temperature on 6600? Read this...

Yes, it would be a little too much for a casual guy who goes glassy eyed when you mention BIOS update, flash it, hex editor, etc. But then, at some time one has to get one's feet wet, right?

Graphic Cards Can't read temperature on 6600? Read this...

Supposedly some 6600 card manufacturers are disabling the temperature sensor to discourage overclocking, but it looks like you can still enable it anyways... Here's how Hopefully, this will help some of you guys out there.

Facing the famous Cooler level bug in FarCry

Ah, thanks for the help guys. I found the solution. Seems that you have to play through the Cooler level in one go (i.e., no re-start of FarCry in between, doesn't matter if you die though). Just did that and lo and behold, I am now on the "Boat" level, jsut after the effing Cooler level...

Facing the famous Cooler level bug in FarCry

At the end of the Cooler level in FarCry, when you have to save Val from the two Trigens to end the level I am facing the famous bug that I have seen reported with nearly no working solution. It is like this. I open the door and Val is ready to face the trigens, but there are no trigens to save...

    Ultimate Killer Gaming Rig

I completely second funky's words. Take myself, for example. I had asked the same question some time back. Till about a month back I had a GF4 Ti4200 64MB AGP 4x running on an Athlon XP 2000+ with 256MB unbranded RAM. I *finished* playing Doom 3 on that system and I was awestruck by the...
