I've used this with a Dell and a HP laptop with no issues. I'm not sure about compatibility with Macbooks. You will have to look that up. Update: I looked it up online and the dock seems to be well supported by Macbooks.

Yes it can charge your laptop as well via USB-C if your laptop supports it. The power adapter is necessary to provide power to the dock itself, peripherals and to your laptop.

Bought this last year from the TE (https://techenclave.com/threads/oem-laptop-docking-stations-thunderbolt-supported-dell-lenovo.204487/) Selling as I am no longer using it anymore. Including the 180W power adapter as well.
