They usually mark the item as gift but the customs guys may check it and still put duty. Depends on your luck. I havent had to pay duty on any item yet.

I have used both and they are both quite good. Etihad had slightly better food. Choose the one with more covienient flying times for you, that'd be much more important. Edit didn't read the similar timing part. I'd go with Etihad.

Its pretty good actually. Haven't found any major downsides. The screen is definitely the best I have ever used on a mobile device. Sound is probably a bit low but I don't think its physically possible to fit better speakers in such a small device. Form factor is really good for seeing movies...
